‘Devdutt Padikkal is definitely the guy for the future,’ believes MSK Prasad
Devdutt Padikkal and MSK Prasad
Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad heaped massive praises for young opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal. The southpaw has been one of the most consistent batsmen in domestic cricket for the past few years. The left-hander has also impressed all with his flamboyant batting in the previous two Indian Premier League (IPL) editions as well while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Prasad mentioned that Padikkal is definitely the guy to watch out for the future and there are no two ways about it. However, he added that the 20-year old currently needs to wait for his chance in the longer format of the game.
“It will take some time for Devdutt Padikkal to break into the longest format. He’s definitely the guy for the future, there are no two ways about it. But if you’re looking at longer formats, maybe he will take one more year of domestic cricket,” Prasad told SportsKeeda in an interview.
MSK Prasad on upcoming Indian pacers
The former wicketkeeper-batsman, who played six Tests and 17 ODIs for India mentioned that the future would be bright for the upcoming fast bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel. He also talked about youngster Avesh Khan who was included in the Indian squad as a stand-by player for the upcoming England tour. The 24-year bowled magnificently well while playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) during IPL 2021.
“You have India A bowlers, all these Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel have gone through India A cricket. Also, it’s pretty evident the way Avesh Khan bowled in the IPL, he was hitting 145-147 kmph in the T20 format, so he will obviously be very helpful to practice with in England. And eventually, these are the guys who are going to play for the country in the future,” Prasad pointed out.
