Devin Booker and Team USA got a step closer to their goal of achieving Olympic gold, after a close 95-91 victory over Serbia on Thursday night. Indeed, the game wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Americans, who had to rely on the heroics of Stephen Curry to make a comeback win. The mood of despair inside Bercy Arena was also clearly evident, with Bogdan Bogdanovic taking a dig at the USA with a trademark Carmelo Anthony celebration after scoring for his country.
Anthony, a former NBA veteran and Team USA Olympian, made the celebration famous during his playing days. However, on Thursday night, during the second quarter of the game, Bogdanovic hit a three-point shot to put Serbia up by fifteen points. Then turning to face Anthony who sat courtside, he celebrated with the former basketball star’s “Three to the Dome” gesture.
That act by Bogdan Bogdanovic certainly annoyed some USA players, with Devin Booker taking it personally himself. The 27-year-old Phoenix Suns’ guard soon responded to the Serbian star after their win, with a snide remark on his Instagram story. He wrote: “Respect the legends”, with a photo of him doing Anthony’s celebration, in which he tagged the Atlanta Hawks big man as well.
Bogdanovic and Anthony had previously faced off against each other on the court when the USA and Serbia locked horns in the finals of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The Serbian squad was still outplayed by the United States, who eventually claimed the gold medal with a 96-66 win.
Carmelo Anthony opens up about why he decided against joining LeBron James at Heats
Recently, basketball legend Carmelo Anthony disclosed why he didn’t link up with the Miami ‘Big Three’ at Heats during his playing days. While speaking on Paul George’s podcast, he stated how he wasn’t really down to join the Heats and then take a reduced role.
Bron is an alpha, D-Wade is an alpha. And Chris Bosh doesn’t get enough credit; he was ridiculous in Toronto. So, for those three to go, I was like, 'Hell no, I can’t be the fourth option. Hell no.' I was cool in Denver.Carmenlo Anthony on Podcast P with Paul George
Considering that he was already leading the Denver Nuggets as an important player then, staying put was a solid choice. Ultimately, that personal decision by Anthony allowed him to be seen and helped cement his reputation as one of the basketball greats.
