After nearly a week of stalled trade rumors, Kevin Durant was suddenly dealt to the Houston Rockets, while attending Fanatics Fest in New York. Now, an NBA insider has revealed an intriguing detail about Durant and his former Suns teammate.
According to Brian Windhorst, Durant’s former teammate, Devin Booker, played a role in the Suns’ decision-making process for roster building ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. This means that Booker was involved in the Suns’ decision to trade Durant to the Rockets. Now, the Arizona-based franchise will have to build a solid team around Booker if they are to compete for a title.
Devin Booker was active in some of their other decisions, including the Kevin Durant trade, and I think he will be active in signing a 2 year record extension of $150M.
Brian Windhorst said on the ESPN Show
Notably, Booker also has been involved in many trade rumors, but nothing has materialized as of yet. As for the details of the Durant deal, the Suns sent their veteran to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall choice in the draft, and five second-round picks.

The four-time scoring winner and 2014 NBA MVP, Durant, will enter the final year of his contract in the 2025–26 campaign. Despite being toward the end of his career, he maintained a high level of productivity this past season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
The Suns weren’t willing to part with their star for a low price, so any trade arrangement to acquire Durant was difficult. To sign him, all of the clubs had to make compelling trade offers, and the Rockets were able to do just that by giving their star players in exchange.
Devin Booker will likely sign a new deal with the Suns
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Devin Booker’s future as well after the Suns dealt with Kevin Durant. However, the Suns do not want to let go of their superstar in Booker ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. Instead, they are reportedly offering him a new deal.
Per Windhorst, Booker will receive a new contract of 70 million per year if he stays. Additionally, Booker will receive a huge salary if he signs a new contract. The Suns’ star man is deserving of the landmark $70 million annual deal. From a trip to the NBA Finals in 2021 to a terrible 2024–25 season, he has always been there in Phoenix.
With the way the Suns are moving off the court, Booker seems to be untouchable. He will have to lead a comeback to winning in Phoenix, and it sounds like he will be with the Suns for a very long time and a lot of money.
Devin Booker once opened up on his bond with Kevin Durant
Despite Booker’s alleged involvement in the Suns’ decision to trade Durant, their bond has always been strong. They have a noticeable chemistry on the court. Booker expressed his respect for Durant after the Phoenix Suns’ season-ending matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. Booker claimed that Durant is his ‘favorite player.’

I mean, we still play together, but it’s just been a joy, from my favorite player to teammate, I don’t take it lightly, our relationship on and off the court… We’re right here.

Following the Suns’ historic transaction to acquire the former MVP, Durant and Booker paired up for the 2022–2023 campaign. Bradley Beal was one of the excellent core players the Suns assembled since then, creating a “Big Three” that had the league talking. However, the outcomes have not lived up to the hype, leading to a complete overhaul of the side.
