Devin Haney is regarded as one of the top lightweight boxers of his generation. This is also because he has remained undefeated throughout his professional career. Now, he is set to defend his WBC super-lightweight title against his amateur boxing rival, Ryan Garcia. As such, ahead of one of the biggest fights of his career, Haney revealed what led to his illustrious boxing career.

During episode 2 of DAZN’s “Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia 40 Day” series, Haney and his father spoke about the highly anticipated fight. While discussing the fight, it was revealed that The Dream had started boxing at an early age. However, this was not because Haney wanted to be a boxer but rather because his father wanted to teach him a lesson.

The two-weight champion often used to get into fights in school when he was 7-8 years old. This prompted his father, Bill Haney, to teach him a lesson by making him fight in a gym setting. However, The Dream ended up displaying that he was a prodigy inside the ring as his natural talent was discovered.

After this, his father supported him in every way possible, which made him into the boxer he is today. Haney revealed that going to the gym was a way for him to channel his anger and get rewarded for it at the same time. It also led to him not getting into trouble in school.

Devin Haney calls Ryan Garcia a C rank fighter

In the run-up to this highly anticipated bout, Garcia has been the talk of the town. This was mainly due to his concerning social media posts. However, both fighters have maintained that they are confident in their ability to win.

However, fans tend to doubt Garcia’s boastful statements. Conversely, when The Dream says this, his words have a lot more weight. This is mainly because he has been diligently training towards his goals.

I’m levels above this dude. Like I said, he’s a C-level fighter. I’m a A+ fighter and I’mma show it via
