Devin Haney is not finished with Ryan Garcia yet. ‘The Dream’ turns ‘Dread’ and ‘Devin’ turns ‘Devil’ as the boxer dropped a lawsuit on Friday suing the former opponent. Garcia defeated Haney last April in a controversial bout where he missed weight at 140 lbs. He came 3.2 lbs above the hydration limit —rendering him ineligible to win Haney’s WBC super lightweight. ‘King Ry’ also had other bad tidings come his way.

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) reportedly backdated the year-long suspension to the weight miss and abnormalities in the testing pool. Despite a false positive for 19-Norandrosterone, Ryan Garcia tested in the green for Ostarine. WBC allowed leeway to “witness the opening of the B sample container” for the adverse finding and contest it. But, to no avail. Willingly or not, ingested contaminated samples are a no-no.

Devin Haney billed that his marketability was hurt in his 12-round fight where a doped Garcia made it look easy. Haney’s team is now taking legal action after writing a letter to the NYSAC asking for Garcia to be disqualified. According to Boxing Scene, Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia on Friday, alleging assault, battery, fraud, and unjust enrichment arising from the April 20 fight.

Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn on X) – online Boxing Editor for talkSPORT.com, reposted the deeds. In glorified terms, that’s challenging his alleged PED usage and calling him an entitled rich prick. It didn’t help that viral boxer Garcia couldn’t help himself and WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expelled him for racial rants. It even drove a reaction from Bill Haney, who upholds his son as the true face of boxing. However, Garcia had stuff to air on it all.

Ryan Garcia drops new diss on Devin Haney spat, says he has ‘left hook syndrome’

The downward spiral of one Ryan Garcia (back to 24-1, 20 KOs) goes on and on. ‘King Ry’ out-edged Devin Haney on April 20th at the Barclays Center. Despite his unhinged disposition and viral moments, some really do believe he didn’t dope up for the fight. However, with a no-contest and a ban, the boxer has nothing to show for it. While initially gunning for a rematch, Haney has now doubled down on a disqualification.

On fight night, Garcia scored three knockdowns en route to winning a majority decision. That was a clear case of “Haney-Bad” rather than “Dope Garcia-good.” Garcia would be eligible to reapply for a license in under ten months. This does not suit Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney who’s in a hurry to slate off this blemish. So it’s been tweet-for-tat and spat after spat for this.

Haney’s attorney, Pat English, said the fight contract contained specific language guaranteeing the boxer would not use PEDs. Now he doubles down on Garcia’s disturbing mannerisms, filing for a lawsuit.

At no time did Devin Haney consent to engage in a bout against a boxer who was positive for a performance-enhancing drug, or masking agent…The New York State Athletic Commission would not have permitted the bout…Adding insult to the Commission and to the sport of boxing, Mr. Garcia has alleged that he was ‘high as fu*k during’ his bout with Mr. Haney. This very clearly brings disrepute on the sport of boxing…

The lawsuit alleges assault and battery due to Haney having suffered “physical injuries.” Reputational harm that would run into millions, as well as fraud through weight miss and test pools. It also alleges unjust enrichment due to Garcia’s receipt of his purse and a share of the pay-per-view profits.

Garcia responded to Haney’s lawsuit in an IG post, jibing it as the final act (hint, hint: of desperation) of the documentary. As such, this matter will remain red hot for a while now.
