Ryan Garcia endured a nightmare 2024 due to his controversial behavior and the failed drug test. 2025 was set to become the beginning of something new. After all, Garcia was picked to headline the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves fight card in Times Square. Against all odds, Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero shut down Garcia over 12 rounds to cause an upset. However, it was Devin Haney that stole the headlines after the fight.

The undefeated Haney came all the way down to the ring, and wanted to know what happened to Garcia. Before that, Haney and his father kept mocking Garcia for losing the bout. Once Haney got closer to the ring, Team Garcia was still around. Continuous taunts from ‘Dream’ provoked a member of Team Garcia to lash out saying, “Your mother’s a b**ch.”

It could have resulted in an all-out brawl like what happened between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III. However, Ryan Garcia was humble in defeat, and didn’t offer any bizarre excuse following the loss. He also didn’t pay much attention to Haney’s taunts either.

This is a disappointing result for Garcia, who wanted to taste victory after spending a year away from the sport. Meanwhile, earlier in the night, Devin Haney defeated Jose Ramirez via unanimous decision in a lackluster encounter. The whole fight had Haney waiting for Ramirez to explode, aiming to hit back while countering.

Despite the fan backlash towards the fight, Haney kept his undefeated status alive with the win. Now, he will likely move on to the Garcia rematch that could likely happen at the end of the year. One can definitely expect more heated confrontations or dialogues between the both camps moving forward.

Ryan Garcia spotted crying and offers congrats to Rolly Romero after defeat

Everyone who followed boxing in 2024 can see how controversial the life of Ryan Garcia was. There were incidents involving his ex-wife that led to chaos. The ‘N-word’ and Islamophobic comments almost got him canceled. Since then, things have calmed for the California native.

His return to boxing was meant to be something of a comeback story that will propel him on a path to greatness. After all, he ended his beef with Canelo Alvarez, and started to train under the Mexican’s legendary coach, Eddie Reynoso, not too long ago. It showed Garcia was in a better place mentally, and could soon unleash his true potential upon the world.

At Fatal Fury, Rolly Romero schooled Garcia to a decision. Following the bout, ‘King Ryan’ was spotted in a car, and was deeply disappointed. From the camera angle, it looks like the boxer was wiping off tears from his eyes. Check out the video below:

Around the same time, the California native also went on X to address the loss to Romero. Not one word ever referred his eternal rival Devin Haney, though. In typical King Ryan fashion, he praised God and even had nice things to say about his successful opponent.

First want to Thank God for everything in every situation, I couldn’t do it tonight, I’m devastated and really sad that I fought the way I did. I just didn’t have it tonight felt off I fought a lot to get here, as you know what I went thru last year was something a lot of people don’t come back from so I can see a victory for me in that. Congratulations to Rollies, Hell of a dude and great hearted person wish you nothing but the best. I love you all and thank you for everything.

All signs point to a rematch with Devin Haney. Even Turki Alalshikh seemed optimistic about the return of Garcia. In the worst-case scenario, the California native could likely end up getting a tune-up fight before his war with Haney resumes.
