After losing out on Juan Soto in the offseason, the New York Yankees went into aggressive mode and landed some top names. One of them was relief pitcher Devin Williams, who was acquired from a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in December.

In the past few days, his name has started trending again on social media. As pitchers and catchers reported back to Spring Training, Williams also made his move to the training ground of the Yankees. He though had a different look.

After the Williams trade deal was sealed, there were many wondering whether he would follow it or not. The answer is yes. The 30-year-old did shave his beard before making his way to the training camp of his new team.

This has raised a lot of discussion in the past couple of days. When asked about this recently, the right-handed pitcher shrugged off the chatter and said, “It is what it is.”

Everyone’s got an opinion, so, it is what it is.

Devin Williams said as per MLB.com

It is likely that Williams is more concerned about the upcoming season rather than how he looks. With the Yankees failing in the World Series last year, he would be hoping to play a key part in helping them do one better this year.

MLB insider blasted NY Yankees after Devin Williams shaved off his beard

The New York Yankees are one of the most successful franchises in sports history. They are also a club who has several traditions with the no beard policy being one of the team. After Devin Williams shaved off his beard and arrived at the camp, a MLB insider blasted them for this rule.

This long-standing tradition was implemented by late owner George Steinbrenner in 1973. He believed that a clean-shaven appearance was a more professional look for players. Although there have been some relaxations on allowing players to have moustaches, beard still remains a no-no for the team.

MLB insider Robert Murray would try to take a stand against this policy on X. In his tweet, he would call it the worst rule in “sports”.

The Yankees’ facial hair policy is the worst rule in sports. There. Someone had to say it.

This tweet from Murray brought out divided opinions from other X users. While some agreed with him and lauded him for being “very brave” to call out this rule, other bashed him. Some sided with the Yankees and pointed out there was nothing wrong in this rule.

Speaking of the Yankees, the team is currently in conversation regarding a contract extension for manager Aaron Boone. The AL East side used the club option to keep at the helm for this upcoming season. There are now talks that they are looking to extend his stay even further.
