Dez Bryant offered valuable advice to George Pickens as he watched the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver ball out against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 11’s last game. Bryant suggested that Pickens should consider staying in Dallas beyond the 2025-26 season.

For that to happen, Pickens must sign a contract extension with the Cowboys. He’s currently playing on a rookie NFL contract that runs out at the end of the season. After that, Pickens will enter free agency and have the liberty to sign for any team.

Monday’s game against the Raiders in Vegas seemed to light a fire in Bryant. Acting as a middleman for the Cowboys, he worked to convince Pickens to take a pay cut and stay in Dallas.

George Pickens..I want you to understand that whenever it’s time to negotiate your new contract, your legacy will be worth more than being the highest-paid wide receiver… if you stayed with the Cowboys.

Dez Bryant demanded Jerry Jones make one change before negotiating contract details with George Pickens

Jerry Jones always pays his favorite players if they play by his rules. The veteran owner has a history of keeping all the cards in his hands during negotiations, which sometimes rubs players the wrong way.

Pickens is second in the league with 908 yards (250+ more than the next best CeeDee Lamb on the Cowboys roster) from 58 catches and 7 touchdowns. Lamb signed a blockbuster deal in 2024, and Pickens is staring at a juicy upgrade as well.

Before that, Bryant wants the Cowboys to replace Matt Eberflus with Al Harris as the defensive coordinator. Eberflus has been under heavy criticism for failing to improve the Cowboys’ run defense or their performance in the red zone. They rank near the bottom of both categories.

If I were Jerry… I would respectfully go in a different direction than DC Eberflus…not because he’s a bad coach. I would offer Al Harris the DC job and let him find his defensive support.

Bryant added

The Pro Bowl wideout compared the Cowboys’ current roster with those that he was part of in the mid-2010s. Stalled contract negotiations left the Cowboys relying on aging, past-their-prime players, ultimately costing the team postseason appearances.

Bryant clashed with Jerry when it was his turn to secure a big payday. When Jerry refused to meet his demands, he headed to New Orleans. He doesn’t want the same outcome for Pickens, which is why he’s taking his time evaluating the 24-year-old before committing to the Cowboys. If Pickens decides to stay, it should be on his own terms.

I’ve watched great teams and been a part of great teams the Cowboys have had over the years. Also, you have to keep the roster young and hungry…I played with guys who were past their due date and didn’t love the game. Respectfully.

Dez Bryant quipped

To summarize Bryant’s monologue, he doesn’t want the Cowboys to break up the Lamb-Pickens partnership. Their rapport has proved beneficial. Of course, they are a 4-5-1, but that is mostly due to the defense conceding 25+ points in every game.

The final call depends on Jerry. After his outing in Vegas, it’s safe to assume he has found his way into Jones’ good books.

I have never seen a performance like that, and it was poetic the way he was making those moves out there. It was like an opera going on.

Jerry Jones said about George Pickens, post-game (H/T: Yahoo)

Jones has the leverage to wait until the end of the year and then make a move. Moreover, he doesn’t necessarily have to give him a long-term contract. Instead, the Cowboys can place a $29 million franchise tag on Pickens for the 2026 season.
