Indian men’s cricket team has donned the whites once again after a gap of two months and they continue the dominance from last week’s Asia Cup. West Indies are touring India for the first time in 7 years and the home side is showing no signs of slowing down against the visitors.
India set the tone early with Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah dismissing the West Indian top order and then bundling the team out for just 162. The Indian team were batting as early as tea on Day 1. Despite the bowlers doing so well, the average fan’s eyes were stolen by the excellent glove work of Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps.
Jurel who replaced regular wicket keeper Rishabh Pant in the side for this home series, showed no signs of any error in him, even collecting swirling balls going as wide in front of the slip fielders. Pant is out of the current West Indies series owing to the unfortunate toe injury he had to suffer in the recently concluded England series.
Jurel continued to add further dilemma in the minds of the selectors when he came out to bat in India’s first innings. He was up to the task with some exquisite strokes all around the ground. He took full advantage of the relatively weaker West Indian bowling attack and notched up his first Test century. Jurel eventually was dismissed for an impressive 125.

Now with some extraordinary takes with the gloves behind the stumps and a match winning impact with the bat, Jurel has instilled doubt in the minds of the selectors. He will keep his spot as long as Pant is unfit, but with his return to the Test team, it will be a struggle to fit both the wicket keepers in the sides.
Dhruv Jurel honors the Indian Army and his father with his celebration after his maiden Test century
Dhruv Jurel stole the spotlight with his batting in India’s first innings against the West Indies. In his 125 off 210 balls, the wicket keeper smashed 15 fours and 3 sixes. His stroke play was as eye catching as it could get, but what made fans love his milestones more was his celebrations after reaching them.
After he reached his half century, Jurel did a salute in respect to the Indian Army and his father. His father Nem Chand served in the Indian army and was even a part of the Kargil War back in 1999. Jurel, in his past interviews has shared that his celebrations honor his father and the Indian army.
After getting to his maiden Test hundred, Jurel did the typical Army salute with his bat acting as his rifle. With him putting some big strides for that wicket keeper spot, Indian cricket is in some really good dilemma. Jurel was accompanied by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja who also hit magnificent tons.

India, currently at the end of Day 2 have scored 448/5 and are a mammoth 286 runs ahead. They will look to bowl out the West Indies soon to avoid even coming out to bat for the second innings.
