The football world woke to scandalous news on Wednesday. Cameras caught New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel with prominent NFL reporter/analyst Dianna Russini cozying up to each other. This wouldn’t have created such a big fuss on the internet if both were single, but that’s not the case.
Vrabel has been married to Jennifer (Jen), his college sweetheart, for more than 25 years. Russini, on the other hand, married corporate executive Kevin Goldschmidt in 2020. A year after her marriage, Russini made a shocking claim about her husband on the sets of ESPN’s Get Up.
I’m married to someone average. I don’t post a lot about him. If I was married to someone beautiful, I’d over-post too.
Russini said
Former NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant seemed gobsmacked by Russini’s confession. Bryant only needed one word to describe what he thought about Russini’s statement.

This particular tweet resurfaced after Russini and Vrabel were spotted holding hands, hugging, and laughing poolside at the boutique resort Ambiente Sedona on March 28.
After rumors of a failed marriage, photos of Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel came out
Russini and Goldschmidt have two sons together. Their first son, Michael Andrew, was born in August 2021, and fourteen months later, Russini gave birth to Joseph Kevin.

Yet, just five years after taking their vows, Kevin and Dianna’s relationship appears to be going through some difficulties. An article published in People magazine documented a story that appeared around the time when Russini was busy covering the Super Bowl in San Francisco.
Russini appeared on the Stugotz and Company show and joked that she intends to divorce Goldschmidt near the end of 2026.
We’re getting divorced at the end of the year… Sorry, Kev.
Russini announced
The 43-year-old, who at present works as an NFL senior insider for The Athletic, claimed that she and her husband are very “disconnected” and their “text messages look like two robots.” Once her mother confronted Russini by saying that Kevin is seeing someone else, and she needs to get her act together.
I go, ‘Why would you say that to me right now while I’m on a trip? That my husband has a girlfriend? There’s nothing I can do and yet she’s out here throwing things at my head.

Former NFL MVP explains the problem behind the Dianna Russini controversy
Shortly after the photos were leaked on the internet, the executive editor of The Athletic, Steven Ginsberg, defended his colleague. Ginsberg argued that the photos are misleading and “lack[s] essential context.”
These were public interactions in front of many people. Dianna is a premier journalist covering the NFL, and we’re proud to have her at The Athletic.
Ginsberg said in his statement
However, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, who switched to broadcasting after retirement, noted a very overlooked aspect of the entire situation involving Russini and Vrabel. From his perspective, the outrage has been very mild, and if the roles were reversed, then social media would have launched a cancel campaign by now.
Let’s say there was a female wide receiver coach, we now have female coaches in the league, and let’s say you saw Rich Cimini [Jets reporter for ESPN] hugging her. We’d all be saying, ‘Ah there goes his journalistic integrity out the window.’ You know what I mean? And that’s really what this is all about.
Esiason said (HT/Boomer and Gio podcast)
A scandal of such magnitude rarely dies down, certainly not in the era of TikTok and Snapchat. Although it shouldn’t have much of an effect on the Patriots’ draft hopes, it’s best not to make any assumptions right away.
