Did the Saints send Alvin Kamara on a reconnaissance mission to scout Shedeur Sanders?

Saints All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara visited the Colorado Buffaloes facility, and NFL fans on social media began connecting him with the Saints being among the favorites to draft Shedeur Sanders.

Alvin Kamara’s recent surprise visit to Shedeur Sanders’ neighborhood attracted ample attention. According to the word around NFL social media, the New Orleans Saints running back was in Colorado to check up on Sanders.

Kamara dropped by the Colorado Buffaloes’ facility in the early days of April. Colorado has become a hotbed for famous faces. So, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for the 29-year-old rusher to be in Boulder country until social media began joining the dots.

As per X/Twitter mongers, Kamara might have had an ulterior motive. He was in Colorado around the same time when the Saints began climbing the ranks among the favorites to draft Shedeur Sanders.

Several mock drafts, including Mel Kiper’s, projected Sanders slipping out of the top 10. This made teams such as the Saints enter the frame to draft Sanders. The Saints pick ninth overall in the draft, and his father, Deion Sanders, has previously said that Shedeur looks good in Black and Gold (Colorado and the Saints share similar colors).

Was Alvin Kamara really in Colorado for Shedeur Sanders?

Kamara is a popular figure in the NFL, so naturally, he would direct a lot of attention to visiting a school whose quarterback is the talk of the nation. However, one might have to ask the reason behind his detour. Was he really in Colorado to scout Shedeur Sanders?

As per Marca, Kamara was in Colorado to meet with his personal trainer, Andreu Swasey, who recently joined the Buffaloes as the new strength coach. During his time at the org, Kamara gave tips to the Buffs running back core.

Man, the cutbacks are going to be there. [But] don’t be so cutback heavy [do you understand?]. It always feels like the cutback is going to be the big play, but when you pause the tape, the front side is going to be wide open.

Regardless of the reason for his visit, it won’t surprise anyone if Kamara chatted a little with Shedeur because the quarterback spot at the Saints is vacant.

Starting quarterback Derek Carr is preparing himself to undergo surgery to fix his shoulder. It will take between six to seven months to complete the rehabilitation. By that time, the 2025-26 season will be in full swing. The Saints can solve that issue by drafting Sanders, but he has to slide down to ninth for that to happen.

Sanders will have Kamara by his side for the next couple of years, at the very least. The 2x second team All-Pro RB signed a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension back in October 2024.

Perhaps Sanders can be the first quarterback to help Kamara cross the 1000-yard mark in the NFL. Despite earning multiple Pro Bowl honors, Alvin Kamara has never hit the coveted 1000 rushing yards mark (950 yards in 2024 was his best ever return).

Kamara completes his lack of yards on the ground with his contributions through the air. He is among the top-receiving RBs in the NFL. Since being drafted in 2017, Kamara has also caught 573 passes for 4762 receiving yards and scored 25 receiving touchdowns.

What are the other NFL teams in the mix to draft Shedeur Sanders?

At the start of the current year, the Tennessee Titans were projected to draft Sanders. As time passed, his draft stock fell from the best to third, and now he risks sliding out of the top 10 completely.

The Titans and Browns (2nd overall pick) are most likely out of the race. This leaves the Giants at 3 and the Raiders at 6. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen in New York added veterans to their team and are concentrating on taking Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter. The Raiders could be a team to keep an eye on, but their general manager loves Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty the most in the top 10.

The Jets and the Panthers are unlikely to draft a quarterback, making the Saints the odds-on favorites to select Shedeur Sanders.
