Last weekend at the main event of Noche UFC, Diego Lopes faced Jean Silva in a highly anticipated featherweight clash. Silva entered the fight with an undefeated UFC record, hoping to secure a title shot by delivering another strong performance. However, Lopes completely outsmarted Silva with timely counters and all-round gameplan, ultimately dominating the Brazilian and finishing him with a TKO.

Ahead of the bout, Silva unleashed heavy trash talk aimed at unsettling Lopes mentally and hoped to gain an advantage. Lopes, however, stayed calm, choosing to let his performance inside the UFC Octagon provide all the necessary answers.

When the fight began, Lopes dismantled the Fighting Nerds member with a well-timed counter that left Silva devastated and emotional. Lopes then had heated words with the Brazilian rival’s corner members. Soon, he climbed the octagon and flipped off to someone in the crowd.  After the fight, both men put aside hostilities, showing mutual respect and sharing a wholesome, heartwarming moment together.

I wanted to congratulate you. We will kill each other there, not here. It’s from the heart. I wasn’t lying. I’m a real guy. I didn’t come to glaze you. You are gonna be a champion. We are gonna see each other again.

Lopes has already fought for the title once against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 314 and lost via unanimous decision. The Aussie fighter put on a masterclass, which left the young fighter helpless, but it gave him the much-needed championship fight experience. However, Lopes has now bounced back with this win and is ready to start his second title run.

Lopes has already been called out by top featherweights such as Aljamain Sterling for a title eliminator. On the other hand, fighters like Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev are now gunning for the next title shot against Alexander Volkanovski. All this has made the drama surrounding the featherweight more intriguing.

Silva, on the other hand, was viewed as the final hope of the Fighting Nerds after every teammate lost recently. It began when Carlos Prates lost to Ian Garry earlier this year, followed by Caio Borralho and Mauricio Ruffy losing in September. ‘Lord Silva’ endured the same result but confidently promised fans the Fighting Nerds will recover and return much stronger.

Jean Silva vs. Diego Lopes was better than Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford?

As the Noche UFC card unfolded at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, excitement grew for Alvarez vs. Crawford’s showdown. The boxing bout was promoted by UFC CEO Dana White, serving as TKO Boxing’s inaugural event. Defying many predictions and odds stacked against him, Terence Crawford delivered an extraordinary performance, winning via unanimous decision against Canelo Alvarez.

The Mexican struggled to counter Crawford’s technical brilliance, leaving him helpless and unable to mount any successful offensive game plan. Although Alvarez suffered defeat, he still walked away with more than $100 million. Following the event, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub released a video comparing boxing and UFC from entertainment and action perspectives.

If you took two casuals and show them Lopes and Silva and you show them Canelo vs. Crawford and you say, ‘Which one did you have more fun watching?’ There’s probably not a person on Earth that would choose Crawford Canelo. You just, you wouldn’t. You just, it’s just, you wouldn’t. It just is what it is.

As expected, Schaub received mixed reactions from fans who supported the fact that top MMA action is more entertaining than boxing. Others believed that, irrespective of action, Lopes vs. Silva wasn’t at the same level as Alvarez vs. Crawford. Nevertheless, this was just a new discussion regarding the ongoing debate between boxing and MMA.
