Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined for the second time this season, for his unorthodox ‘notebook’ celebration against Mumbai Indians in a heated IPL encounter. The 25-year-old bowler has been directed to pay almost six lakhs in fines, for his provocation.
Digvesh Rathi has been one of the breakout stars of the 2025 IPL season, claiming six wickets in four matches for LSG. The 25-year-old spinner has bowled at an average of 20.33 and a decent economy rate of 7.63, sealing his place in the LSG lineup for the season. However, Rathi’s mystery spinning abilities and unorthodox yet efficient bowling, combined with his on-field antics, has garnered controversy.
The 25-year-old spinner unleashed his unqiue ‘notebook’ celebration during LSG’s previous outing against Punjab Kings, at the Ekana Stadium. In the third over of the match, Digvesh Rathi dismissed Priyansh Arya off a short outside-off delivery. As the PBKS batter walked out of the pitch, Rathi approached him and performed an animated celebration by pretending to write something on his left hand, mockingly.

The bowler was warned by the on-field umpire for his antics, while LSG went on to eventually lose the match. The young spinner was later reprimanded by the BCCI, as they fined him 25 percent of his match fee and handed him a demerit point. However, the punishment did not curtail Digvesh Rathi from repeating the offence, during LSG’s recent win over Mumbai Indians.
Digvesh Singh is that proper, arrogant, Delhi brat who doesn't care about the rules.

Again, I'm not against celebrations especially from bowlers during IPL. Dk why they even fine them https://t.co/grsUaYRu1M
After dismissing Naman Dhir in the 9th over of the match, the 25-year-old once again did his ‘notebook-style’ celebration to send off the MI batter. As a result of his actions, Digvesh Rathi, who was bought by LSG at the 2025 IPL auction for INR 30 lakhs, has now been fined 50 percent of his match-fee, against MI. The total fine amounts to a combined INR 5.62 lakhs, across two successive IPL matches.

Moreover, Digvesh Rathi has been found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, and has also been handed another two demerit points for a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 of the ICC rulebook. In case he repeats his antics during the team’s upcoming encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders, he might have to face suspension and sit out for a match.
Nonetheless, Digvesh Rathi, against Mumbai Indians, went on to win the Man of the Match award for helping his side claim an important 12-run victory. He returned the match-winning figures of 1/21 in his four-over spell.
After Digvesh Rathi, Rishabh Pant fined 12 lakhs for slow over-rate during LSG vs. MI
Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant is the second player from his side to be fined after spinner Digvesh Rathi, following the team’s 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Stadium. Pant was penalised for his side’s slow over-rate, in the second innings of the match.

Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 12 lakhs for a lapse in the team’s slow over-rate during the match, under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The rules allow a team to finish its 20 overs in 90 minutes, while LSG were running short after the 19th over. As a result of the failure to maintain the minimum over-rate, the home side was forced to keep one fielder less outside the 30-yard circle in the final over.
Meanwhile, adding to the worries, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant has been struggling with the bat this season. The 27-year-old wicket-keeper, who was bought at a massive sum of INR 27 crores at the IPL auction, managed to score only 2 runs against MI, before being caught out off Hardik Pandya’s delivery.
