Dillon Brooks and the Phoenix Suns had the last laugh over the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James. It was their third clash in the span of three weeks, with the Suns coming out on top on two occasions. The Suns recorded a convincing 132-108 victory over the Lakers at the Mortgage Matchup Center on Tuesday night.
The win lifted the Suns to 16-13 after 29 games and found themselves placed at seventh place in the Western Conference standings, while the Lakers suffered their first back-to-back defeats this season and sit at fourth place with a 19-9 record.
It was a tough outing for the Lakers as the ‘Purple and Gold’ were without the services of their best player Luka Doncic while Austin Reaves who has been the story of the season for the Lakers came off the bench and was on a minutes restriction after missing the last three games due to injury.
Hence, all the offensive load fell on the shoulders of LeBron James. All the starters scored double-digit points for the Lakers with James scoring a team-high 23 points but to no avail as the Suns dominated the game since the tip-off.
For the Suns, it was Dillon Brooks who put on a show after scoring a game-high 25 points in under 24 minutes, and was supported by Devin Booker, who recorded a double-double, scoring 21 points to go along with 11 assists.
It was Brooks’ third consecutive 20-point game as he continues to have a career-best season in his first season with the Suns after being traded by the Houston Rockets for Kevin Durant in the offseason. The Suns forward is currently averaging 21.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
While Brooks is having his best-ever season in the NBA and has even received support from his competitors for a spot in the NBA All-Star game this year, he has not stayed away from the controversies. The 29-year-old has had heated exchanges with James during their previous two meetings which even led to his ejection in one of the games and even had a couple of tense moments on Tuesday.
Thankfully, there was no escalation to their feud on Tuesday as Brooks was captured looking delighted with his team’s blowout victory.

Fans react to Dillon Brooks’ reaction after the blowout win
Brooks has had his fair share of critics this season and rightfully so, as the forward has been involved in some controversial moments against the likes of James and Stephen Curry. But many fans reacted positively to his performance against James on Tuesday night.

Dillon Brooks brings in the energy and competitive spirit for the Phoenix Suns
Following the trades of Durant and Bradley Beal in the offseason, it was believed that the Suns’ championship window had closed, and it may be time to hit the reset button. But Booker ended up staying, which was a surprise to many. Before the start of the 2025-26 campaign, many predicted that the Suns would find themselves somewhere close to the bottom of the standings, but things have been different since.
Brooks is playing like one of the best two-way players in the league and may secure his first All-Star appearance this season if he continues with his impressive performances. The forward has brought in the competitive spirit which has been missing in the franchise for quite some time.

After the win, the Suns’ head coach Jordan Ott spoke highly of Brooks and what he brings to the team.
It’s been tremendous. We love his energy, we love his competitive spirit. It’s lifted our entire group. We feed off of it. He works extremely hard. Every single night he’s out there whether he’s banged up or not, he’s out there. He’s just got to get to the edge and not over it. We will take in all the energy and emotions that he has with it but you just don’t want to go over that line.

It appears that Brooks and the Suns have both found each other at the right time, as the trade for Brooks has proven to be fruitful for both parties so far. Only time will tell if the Suns get better from here or if Brooks’ attitude causes problems for the team.
