Both Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green are often regarded as “villains” in the modern-day NBA timeline. Trash talking, arguing with referees, and getting under the skins of their opponents are some of the tactics used by the aforementioned duo. The two have even gone at it with each other whenever their teams clashed as well.

The Phoenix Suns star has already been involved in a few exchanges this season. The most recent one being with LeBron James. Dillon Brooks stared down James after a transition dunk and did an exaggerated shoulder shrug in front of the Los Angeles Lakers star.

The action did not go well with James, who confronted Brooks during a timeout. Meanwhile, things have been a lot calmer with Draymond Green this season. Green said the reason for his good behavior is due to the presence of his young son on the bench.

While Green is at the backend of his career, he knows what it takes to be an All-Star in the league, having been nominated four times himself. Meanwhile, Brooks seems to have found his place with the Phoenix Suns after being traded by the Houston Rockets in the offseason. The Canadian international is in the prime of his career and his performances on the court prove it.

For the first time in his career, the 29-year-old is averaging more than 20 points per game. Brooks is currently averaging 22.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. As such, the Golden State Warriors star believes that Brooks is capable of being an All-Star this season if he keeps this going.

Dillon Brooks is in the conversations of myself, Marcus Smart, Dennis Rodman, and my thoughts on that list are he only got one all-defensive team. So you’d love to see that list continue to grow but nonetheless I do think he is your hard-playing guy. So I’m not mad at Boogie putting Brooks in that category with what he’s continued to prove.

The four-time NBA champion once squared off against Brooks in the playoffs when the Canadian was part of the Memphis Grizzlies. From such experiences in the past, Green admitted that he wasn’t sure about Brooks, but things have changed now.

I wasn’t sold earlier in his career I’ll be honest. If he continues to play the way he’s playing I think he’ll be a little more than all-defense, I think he has a legit opportunity to be an all-star if he keeps this up.

It is not often you hear praises from Green, especially for Brooks, who has had heated exchanges with the Warriors star in the past. Good performances deserve respect, and it remains to be seen if the Canadian can sustain this throughout the season.

Impact of Dillon Brooks on the Phoenix Suns

After trading the likes of superstar Kevin Durant in the offseason, the common notion was that the Phoenix Suns will struggle this season despite keeping a hold of Devin Booker. But one of the revelations for the Suns has been Brooks so far. Now, with Booker currently out, the Suns are leaning on Brooks to help carry the team.

The Suns have been a surprise in the west this season. They are currently placed at seventh in the Western Conference standings with 13-10 record. One of the big reasons for their impressive start to the season is the addition of the former Rockets player.

While Brooks has always remained a solid defensive player, and his offensive game has undergone significant improvements this campaign. This makes him a valuable two-way player for the club. Suns head coach, Jordan Ott, spoke about the importance of Brooks in the absence of Booker.

We have to lean on him right now. He’s added a piece to his game. The ability to go off the dribble a little bit. We play pick-and-roll with him. We’re leaning on him a lot.

The Western Conference remain stacked with many teams including last year’s winner, the Oklahoma City Thunder. If the team can sustain a winning record with Devin Booker returning later, there is a definite chance that the Suns can make the post-season. Nevertheless, the stacked western conference may not be easy to overcome for the Arizona-based team.

Former Phoenix Suns star heaps praise on Dillon Brooks

While the Houston Rockets recorded a convincing 117-98 victory over the Suns, Dillon Brooks was the only player to cross the 20-point mark for his team. It was Brooks’ first match in Houston since his departure in the offseason.

After the match, the recent member of the 31k club and former Suns star, Kevin Durant, showed respect to the Canadian star.

You can see his impact over there in Phoenix. He’s playing aggressive. He’s commanding the group. Guys are listening to him. He’s pretty much stepped up and become a leader over there. Him and (Booker) have just become vocal leaders for them. He’s getting better as a player and more confident as a player, and it probably started from here (in Houston).

Kevin Durant said after the game

During Brooks’ two seasons in Houston, the Rockets showed considerable improvements. In his first season, they went 41-41 coming off a 22-win season. Moreover, in his second season, they came second in a stacked Western Conference and lost in the first round to the Warriors in seven games. As such, a similar impact is potentially on the table if Brooks continues to perform for the Suns.
