Dimitri Bivol shocks the world with a Unanimous Decision victory over Canelo Alvarez
Dimitri Bivol cruised to a 115-113 unanimous decision over Canelo Alvarez
Canelo Alvarez will face Dimitri Bivol in his return to light heavyweight as he tries to add to his already legendary trophy collection. Canelohowever was in for a big surprise as he was more focussed on moving up weight classes rather than the undefeated boxer who was the task at hand
From the starting bell, it seemed that Canelo was out of his rhythm going against a counterpuncher like himself. It looked as though the Mexican sensation had finally met his bane in the Russian. Unlike many of his previous opponents, Bivol did not seem to be intimidated by Canelo’s power and was willingly trading shots in close range and in the clinch. Canelo however was able to end the first with an uppercut right on the bell
Rounds 2-4 saw Bivol use his jab to create distance and land more combos with Bivol even managing to put Canelo on the ropes at the end of Round 3. Round 4 saw more of the same from Bivol with Canelo spending a majority of the round on the ropes. The fourth saw Canelo land another flush uppercut by the end of the round.

Bivol picked up the pace in the middle rounds even managing to land a flurry of 6 punches, that co[nnected hard on Canelo after which, the Russian comfortably stepped out of range. Canelo’s frustrations were getting more and more obvious by the end of round 5. Round 6-8 was all Bivol with him almost seeming to land at will, frustrating Canelo who kept dropping his guard
Round 9 seemed to be a turning point for Canelo with him landing a right while moving forwards but that changed in round 10 where Bivol got back to his rhythm of “jab-jab-hard shots and back up” Round 11 all but sealed the deal with Bivol pushing back Canelo as a dejected Canelo manages to land a right hook at the end of the round.
Canelo knowing he needs a knockout in the 12th rushed forwards landing to the body but Bivol seemed unfazed with him moving out of the way of most shots thrown by a frustrated Canelo. At the end of the bell, Canelo seemed to celebrate but everyone knew who the judges were scoring the fight for. As the scorecard was announced Canelo suffered his first defeat since Floyd Mayweather, losing a unanimous 115-113 on all three scorecards
