Erik ten Hag and Manchester United were in desperate need of a win on Sunday night as they took on West Ham United at London Stadium. Despite creating numerous chances and forcing multiple shots on target on the night, the Red Devils were on the wrong side of the scoreline at full-time. Of all the missed chances, Diogo Dalot made headlines for an unbelievable miss in the first half.
The player was put through on goal thanks to a pass by Bruno Fernandes. A quick touch outside the penalty area helped Dalot guide the ball past a rushing Lukasz Fabianski. Tasked with the ‘easy’ responsibility of passing the ball into an empty net, the Portuguese skied the ball over the crossbar.
The entire stadium let out a sigh of collective relief as the score remained 0-0. Manchester United went on to lose the game as a late penalty from Jarrod Bowen handed them their fourth loss of the season.

Fans laughed at how Cristiano Ronaldo once backed the full back to succeed at the club. Dalot’s miss may ultimately cost Erik ten Hag his job at the club.
Fans react to Diogo Dalot’s unbelievable miss against West Ham
Reacting to Diogo Dalot‘s horrendous miss on Sunday, a fan commented that he did it on purpose to get rid of Erik ten Hag. Additionally, some even compared his miss to that of a penalty miss by Steven Gerrard, which eventually led to the sacking of then-Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson. A supporter blamed Dalot for costing United the game and a crucial point in the season.

Even though Dalot has been one of the most consistent starters for Ten Hag in recent seasons, a fan said that fatigue is preventing him from contributing effectively to the team. Some fans shifted the blame to Ten Hag and his system, which constantly puts Dalot in the most demanding positions. A fan simply stated that he can neither defend, attack, or even convert easy chances to save his life.
Diogo Dalot can't defend, can't attack, and can't finish chances from 6 yards out with no goalkeeper in front of him.

Following the loss to West Ham United, Ten Hag blamed VAR and the match officials for the penalty call. He also said that the result is unfair and that such mistakes significantly impact United’s position in the League table. With just 11 points from the first nine games, United have a mountain to climb if they are to make it to the upper half.
