Dirk Nowitzki was almost hurt by a man trying to dunk over him
Dirk Nowitzki, the legendary Dallas Mavericks player, attended Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, which his former team lost to the Boston Celtics, 106-99. However, that wasn’t the only unfortunate event he experienced that evening.
Before the game, Dirk Nowitzki participated in a promotional event outside American Airlines Center, where he was asked to hold a basketball over his head for a dunker named Chris to jump over and slam home. Unfortunately, the dunker failed to get enough height and ended up jumping on Nowitzki’s back, causing both to stumble into the crowd.
The video of the failed dunk and the announcer’s reaction went viral, making for an embarrassing moment for both Chris and Nowitzki. This will likely be the last time Nowitzki agrees to hold the ball for an amateur dunker.
Nowitzki was a dominant force on the court, known for his signature one-legged fadeaway jump shot. He led the Mavericks to their first NBA championship in 2011 and was named the NBA Finals MVP. Nowitzki’s impressive career earned him a place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.

A rather tough scene. This might probably the last time Nowitzki holds the ball for an amateur dunker. Don’t anticipate seeing him at All-Star Weekend for a high-flying Maverick next year.
