Matthew Stafford is finally receiving the respect he deserves from a rookie who believes the Los Angeles Rams quarterback is a top-two quarterback in the league. So, when NFL Network announced their top 100 players list and placed Stafford further down the order, new Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams couldn’t believe it.
Despite being a starting quarterback for 16 years, fans never saw Stafford as an elite shot-caller. He always remained just below the best players tier—the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes.
Williams, who grew up modeling his game around Rodgers and Brady’s, presented a surprising argument in favor of Stafford. During a recent interview with Kay Adams for Up & Adams, the 2024 first-overall pick gave the 36-year-old his due.
I don’t think I can name two or three quarterbacks that play the position better than Matthew Stafford… playing right now. Aaron Rodgers, right now in the NFL, is my No. 1 QB. [Obviously], last year he got hurt and things like that, so that kind of varies with the top 100. Matthew [Stafford] is top two in the league. I give him his respect. I watch his game, try to mimic things, and get after it.Caleb Williams told Kay Adams
Matthew Stafford is your favorite quarterback’s favorite quarterback.

Stafford only managed 24 touchdown passes and suffered 11 interceptions. It may not seem the best on paper, but underlying numbers suggest 2023 was one of his best-ever years in the NFL.
Matthew Stafford has resolved his complicated contract situation
Stafford is getting on in his years, and even though the 2-time Pro Bowler last year proved he still has a lot of juice left in the tank, the Rams took their time in sorting out his contract. He missed the OTAs, citing injury, but the Rams’ front office knew the veteran sought an improved deal.
Both parties eventually agreed to make some changes to the contract, which became $40 million a year for 2024. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Stafford must keep on displaying his worth if he wants a future extension.
[Matthew] Stafford's future as a year-to-year proposition, per a team source. His reworked contract reflects that, pushing his 2024 pay into the $40 million range but lessening his guarantees in 2025, allowing both sides to decide whether they want to remain married at that point.Jeremy Fowler said (H/T: Bleacher Report)
They will decide on a new deal after the season ends. The Rams don’t have urgency, and they even added Jimmy Garoppolo as an insurance policy if anything were to happen to Matthew Stafford.
