‘Disappointed’ Caitlin Clark wants WNBA players to get the same amount of respect
Caitlin Clark grew up idolizing the WNBA, therefore demands equal respect for them.
Caitlin Clark expressed her disappointment after her name is used to push agendas
The WNBA started the season looking to feed off the hype around Caitlin Clark. So far, it has been a success, in terms of attendance, viewership, as well as merchandise sales. However, narratives surrounding race, sexual orientation, and experience have brought the league into a bad light. These reasons threaten to take away the good that is propelling the league. The Indiana Fever superstar, though, had something to say about this.
Before today’s game, reporters met Clark during the shootaround. The Athletic’s James Boyd specifically asked the question surrounding her name being used to fan the negative narratives.
It’s disappointing. Everybody in our world deserves the same amount of respect. The women in our league deserve the same amount of respect. People should not be using my name to push those agendas. It’s disappointing, it’s not acceptable. This league is a league I grew up admiring and wanting to be part of. Some of the women in this league were my biggest idols and role models growing up.Caitlin Clark said
Clark knows that all the narratives running around are based on her. Therefore, she wants the agendas to stop.
Treating every single woman in this league with the same amount of respect is just a basic human thing that everybody should do. Just be a kind person and treat them how you would want to be treated. I think it's very simple.Caitlin Clark added
Quite a rational and well-thought-out point from the rookie superstar. After all, she plays basketball because of her love for the game and the superstars who made her love the WNBA. Therefore, to use her name to slander those superstars is now how she would like it.
This will either take the discussions to a different level or quiet down the negativity engulfing the league. It will also be a breather for those players who were on the receiving end of the hate.
Caitlin Clark and Fever are starting to click
The Indiana Fever have had a rough start to this WNBA season. Standing with a record of 4-10, they are one of the worst teams in the league. However, two things are in their favor as the season progresses. One is that they have a team full of young first-round picks. This means if developed well, the team could build the chemistry that will lead them to success.
The second is that none of the players on the Indiana Fever are going to the Olympics. Meaning, they will get to rest as well as work on their game. However, the early effect of that chemistry is starting to show. After losing their first five games, the Fever have posted a 4-5 record, which is a major improvement. Their next 11 games until the Olympics break will show how much they have improved.
They can win at least 6 of those games. There is nothing better for building chemistry than winning games. If head coach Christie Sides can start to push the envelope and help them get those wins, the sky is the limit for Caitlin Clark and her young teammates.
