It was an ordinary start for the defending champions of La Liga, Real Madrid as they had to share the spoils after a lacklustre battle against Mallorca. Rodrygo provided them the all-important lead in the 13th minute but Vedat Muriqi’s 53rd minute equalizer saw Madrid take a hit. Real Madrid’s boss, Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t particularly happy with what he saw on the field.

Carlo Ancelotti was clear on the fact that Real Madrid lacked balance in their draw against Mallorca. Attitude was key and somehow Los Blancos didn’t exhibit a winning one on the yard. He also emphasized the fact that the strikers were swapping positions but Madrid somehow was too open and there was a clear dearth of concentration.

I don’t want to make excuses. We just had to do better, with more attitude. You can learn from these games. It’s clear where the problem is. We started the game well, but it wasn’t a good game. We need to defend better. We need more balance. We’ve said it before, we’re very offensive and balance is essential. It is not a problem for one, two or three. It is a problem for a team that in this match did not understand that it was a key aspect. Mallorca played a great game defensively. The draw is correct.
Carlo Ancelotti said in the post-match presser.

To make matters worse for Real Madrid, they had to play with 10 men in the last minute after Ferland Mendy was shown a red card for a brash sliding tackle against Mallorca’s goal-scorer, Vedat Muriqi. Real Madrid will be playing their next game against Valladolid on Sunday and this time in Santiago Bernabeu.
