DK Metcalf set to follow fellow WR Tyler Lockett out of Seahawks after handing in stunning trade request
Seattle Seahawks had two All-Pro caliber receivers in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for six straight seasons.

The Seattle Seahawks moved on from Pete Carroll to start a new era under Mike Macdonald. In year one of that new era, they notched up a 10-7 record with superstar receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett leading the way.
But the team did not make it to the playoffs after a few crucial losses to playoff teams undermined their season. In the midst of that run, second year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba became a Pro Bowler. That is despite having Metcalf and Lockett playing alongside him.
The latter has been a consistent threat for them over ten seasons. But he was entering the last season of his two-year contract and racked up just 600 yards last season. With that in mind, they informed NFL Insiders of their next move.
Seahawks are releasing an all-time franchise great, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who piled up 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns across 10 seasons in Seattle. The Seahawks are opting to release Lockett rather than pay him his $17 million salary for this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16.

On first look, this seems to be a salary cap move as they will save $17 million. That money will go a long way into attracting free agents as they had just over $20 million prior to this release. However, his age and possibly reduced production might also be reasons for his release.
DK Metcalf hands in trade request
The Seattle Seahawks moving on from Tyler Lockett means they would have Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf as their two primary receivers. That duo is still good enough to keep defenses on their toes. But with just one season left on his contract, Metcalf has made a significant move.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade, per source. The request came today after a series of conversations over the past two weeks. Metcalf prefers a contender.

The ESPN Insider added that the freakish wideout is looking to land a major contract. Considering he has been speaking with the Seahawks top brass over the past few weeks, this is not a knee jerk reaction. Rather, it seems the team are not willing to hand him a deal that he likes.

The superstar wideout has amassed 900+ yards in every season he has played in the NFL. Last season though, he tallied the least touchdowns of his career. But even then, that is six seasons worth of consistent production, for which, he wants to be duly paid. He will like it if a contending team gives him that contract.
