DK Metcalf handed in a trade request from the Seattle Seahawks. The demands of the trade, set by both the Seahawks and Metcalf’s party, are quite steep.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Seahawks want a first-round and third-round pick from the team that wants to trade for Metcalf. On top of it, the 27-year-old wants a $30 million-a-year deal.

The 2024 season didn’t go according to plan for Metcalf. He only managed 66 receptions, 992 receiving yards, and five touchdowns through 15 games, which is his lowest number since entering the NFL. It’s perhaps the reason Metcalf wants out of Seattle.

Moreover, his three-year, $72 million deal is set to run out in 2025 and could be another reason for him to seek a trade. A fresh start with a bona fide quarterback may be the answer he needs to get his career back on track.

Seahawks general manager hints at NFL teams being interested in a DK Metcalf trade

The Seahawks have undergone several changes in the past couple of seasons. From head coach to new offensive coordinator to the departure of fan-favorite receiver Tyler Lockett, the changes in Seattle happened thick and fast.

The next big name in line for a big-money move is DK Metcalf, and according to the Seahawks general manager, several NFL teams are interested, but they will only trade the two-time Pro Bowler to the team that will fulfill all the criteria.

We’re talking to a ton of teams, taking offers, seeing what that looks like. Hopefully, both those things merge, and it’s an ideal situation.

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said following Metcalf handing in a trade request

The Seahawks hold all the leverage

Schneider knows that both parties have to be on board for a trade to materialize. He isn’t concerned about whether the deal will get done before the deadline.

Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully, in this situation, it does, and that would be great. But worst-case scenario, we have an amazing, explosive, powerful athlete playing receiver for us again in 2025. So, we’ll see where this goes.

John Schneider said

The Seahawks will gladly keep DK in Seattle for the remainder of his contract and perhaps tag him next year or even let him try out free agency. With Lockett no longer in the building, only Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the designated wide receiver around to start every game. If they manage to retain Metcalf’s services for one more year, then perhaps Geno Smith can finally push for a deep playoff run.
