DK Metcalf probably has his own version of how his interaction with a Detroit Lions player panned out in their Week 16 win. He, though, might have to hold that thought when he appears in front of the NFL’s appeal office sometime this week.
The league has suspended the Steelers’ star wide receiver for the next two games after determining that he violated league policy regarding interactions with fans.
The 28-year-old has appealed, but that will most likely not go in his favor, as the league has always mentioned that players have to keep their cool in times like this.
What the league has to do is say, ‘This is how we are going to safeguard you against that.’ The same way they do in basketball. There should be a way where you can go talk to somebody and say, ‘This person said such and such, I don’t feel comfortable continuing to do my job if they’re here.’
Ryan Clark said
His Monday Night Countdown colleague, Jason Kelce, added that this is not talked about enough, and the NFL has to clarify the process and protocol on how to handle heckling fans. After this, when Ryan Clark added that the fan walked over to talk trash to DK Metcalf should be considered when looking at all angles of this incident.

To this, Marcus Spears mentioned that the NFL seems to have shielded the fan in this fiasco, whereas they should have protected their asset, which is the player.
Video shows DK Metcalf’s ‘racial’ claims might be unfounded
When DK Metcalf stands in front of the NFL officials, he will have a chance to explain how it went down from his perspective. Sources close to him revealed that the Lions fan used a racial slur and apparently insulted his mother.

The fan, though, has vehemently denied using racial slurs or talking about the wideout’s mother. A new fan video could tilt the ruling in the fan’s favor.
The clip shows the fan or the person recording apparently calling at Metcalf not to sign the Lions’ fan’s jersey. The alleged ‘victim’ is seen moving over from his second-row seat towards the wall.

As soon as the 6′ 3″ receiver spots the fan, he walks over and then grabs the wig before trying to land a punch. The fan was then seen throwing up his hands, as if he managed to succeed in rattling the athlete.
However, the fan was not captured saying anything in racial terms. Therefore, from this new clip, it seems the Ole Miss star’s actions could have been avoided.
Former wideout believes DK Metcalf should not have engaged
There have been several mercurial figures who have played in the NFL before DK Metcalf set foot in the league. One of them, Golden Tate, while speaking with Kay Adams, said this:
This is completely unacceptable… We know that fans, especially on the road, are going to be talking their mess. There’s really nothing that could have been said to him for him to react that way.

The Super Bowl champion believes the Pittsburgh Steelers’ pass catcher should not have engaged with the fan from the get-go. Tate believes the battle was lost the moment Metcalf went over to confront the fan.

He was thankful that the Mississippi native’s hand did not connect with the fan, considering how strong the receiver is, it could have led to a broken jaw. That could have led to additional complications, as the fan in question could press charges. Golden Tate believes professional athletes must shield themselves from all this noise.
