- Doc Rivers' recent "Google Me" rant has caused discontent among Milwaukee Bucks players.
- Fans criticized Rivers for gloating about past achievements during a disappointing season.
- Rivers hinted at retirement, suggesting he may step away from coaching soon.
The Milwaukee Bucks hired Doc Rivers with the hope that he would bring his wealth of experience dealing with superstars and creating contenders, as Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the team needed a strong leader.
The 64-year-old has been coaching for nearly 27 years, and has one championship to show, along with a Coach of the Year award he won at the turn of the millennium.
He has also dealt with the likes of flamboyant superstars such as Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Chris Paul, and many others.
The hope was that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard would benefit from that experience, as would the rest of the team, as Rivers has a history of bringing out the best from bench players.
He experienced a minor triumph in the form of an NBA Cup win last season. But since then, Lillard is gone, and the Bucks have endured a disappointing season where they have been officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Doc Rivers called for a team meeting that day… According to six people in the room, ‘Look at my resume and Google me. I took teams to the playoffs and championship that weren’t supposed to be there. I thought this was one of them.’

ESPN’s lead insider was referring to a team meeting that took place after the Bucks lost by 27 points to the visiting Boston Celtics. As per Shams Charania, players did not take this gloating well.
Fans tear into Doc Rivers for gloating amidst disappointing run
Basketball fans were already aware of all the noise coming from the Milwaukee Bucks’ camp. Be it Giannis Antetokounmpo’s dissatisfaction with the front office or their run of poor results, fans were aware that the situation was not right.
However, they were taken aback when Shams Charania reported it, as they felt that Doc Rivers was still gloating about a championship he won 18 years ago. They felt that he had not followed up on that, despite having multiple superstar-laden teams at his disposal.
Now, for him to gloat about it despite being the one responsible for this disappointing run was a bit too much for fans to take. They ripped into this behavior on social media, examples of which are below.
Doc is delusional this is a case of someone who’s mastered the art of narrative over results.

He won a championship with a team that my 8yr old could’ve coached.

Doc Rivers you're the most underachieving HC of the past 30-40 years. That long chip that you have is because you needed a superteam with 4 HOFers in the starting lineup.

Below .500 Record w the Bucks….hasnt coached a team outside the secound round in 15 years…Outside of Boston a Record of 55-65 in the playoffs….

I'm guessing the reason it wasn't recieved well is because they did, in fact, Google him?

Had the best teams in Clippers history and they make the WCF for the first time the year he leaves. Not a coincidence

Doc rivers gotta be one of the worst coaches of all time, right there with Mike brown. Carried by Hall of Famers

In Doc Rivers’ defense, neither has Giannis Antetokounmpo been available for much of this campaign, nor has his heart been with the Bucks.
Even then, fans felt that the head coach should have made something of the rest of the team, as their 31-48 record indicates that his work did not bear fruit.
Doc Rivers subtly hints at retirement amidst controversy
Since this news was already public information before the Milwaukee Bucks played the Brooklyn Nets, Hoops Hype reporter Michael Scotto asked Doc Rivers how long he intends to continue coaching before entering the Hall of Fame.

I won’t answer that, but I have grandkids that I want to see. I’ll put it that way. I’ll let you figure it out from there… It’s probably time to go see them more, so I’ll let you figure out the rest.
Doc Rivers replied
I asked Doc Rivers how much longer he envisions coaching as he prepares to enter the Hall of Fame. He replied, “I won’t answer that, but I have grandkids that I want to see. I’ll put it that way. I’ll let you figure it out from there. I have seven grandkids now and they’re all… pic.twitter.com/eLwrZTqUpx

This was probably a subtle indication that his time may be up with the Milwaukee Bucks and coaching in general. Now, the franchise is bracing for the league to reveal its findings after Giannis Antetokounmpo asked for an investigation.
