Over one and a half decade, NASCAR have had just three Original Engine Manufacturers in the sport, namely Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota. But recently there has been some reports that suggest the return of the iconic brand Dodge to NASCAR. The initial reports from Catchfence claims that the return will start with a Truck Series entry in 2026 season.
Now senior motorsports journalist of The Athletic, Jordan Bianchi, has confirmed that they are going to return to the Truck Series, first time since 2016. They are expected to use their ‘Ram’ brand and have already filed a submission, that is under the review of NASCAR. A final answer from NASACAR is expected to come soon as they brand need some time to get ready for 2026 signing deals with new teams.
NASCAR is reviewing Dodge’s submission to field a truck through its ‘Ram’ brand and an answer is expected soon, sources with knowledge of the plans said. While there are no guarantees, sources expect that the league will eventually approve Dodge returning. Such approval would need to happen within a few months to allow Dodge to effectively test its Ram truck before potentially hitting the track in an actual race next year.

He then added that they are also planning to make it into the Cup Series either in the 2027 season or the 2028 season. They had a poor stint in the elite tier from 2001 to 2012 owing to financial difficulties alongside the lack of big teams to align with team. The are now determined to put-together a full-cup program eventually.
Dodge raced in Cup from 2001 to 2012 before exiting due to financial difficulties and a lack of viable teams willing to align with it. People with knowledge of the discussions said Dodge is returning with the intent to eventually put together a full Cup program. That Cup program could be operational as soon as 2027 or 2028.
Jordan Bianchi added.
Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy MC is team that can join Dodge
Dodge needs a solid team to make their Cup series return, and Jimmie Johnson’s team Legacy Motor Club seems to be better choice. They have strong driver line-up, team leaders, crew and sponsors. The only they lack is a top tier support from a manufacturer and if Dodge can offer it, they can succeed on the track.

Recently NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has highlighted LMC as the team that would be willing to join a new OEM if such opportunities arise. He believes the team as well as the OEM coming can produce a solid partnership, that can eventually make them the top dogs.
The people that want to get into the sport, or become cup teams. You’re going to have interest from, like I said, the guys that are not on — the third or fourth in line at the other OEMs. Like a Jimmie Johnson… I could absolutely see Jimmie going. A new OEM coming in, you want to make us top dog. You’re going to give us the resources to become what we want to become.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.
The comment from Junior shows the true potential of LMC with Jimmie Johnson at the helm. If the reports about Dodge coming is right, it’s the right move for them to sign Legacy MC as they have both the capability to produce solid races and market relevance in the sport.
