The Los Angeles Dodgers got pounded on Friday by the Houston Astros. The World Series champions were blown away 18-1 by the American League team. As the Astros kept on hitting, a Dodgers announcer brought up their infamous sign-stealing scandal.

The Dodgers had rookie pitcher Ben Casparius on the mound for this game. The Astros entered the top of the third inning with a 2-1 lead.

Jake Myers would first hit a double into left field. Jose Altuve, who got greeted with several loud boos from the fans inside the Dodger Stadium, cracked his first regular season home in this venue to give his side a 4-1 lead.

After Altuve’s home run, Casparius gave up another double. Cam Smith jumped on a 2-2 pitch, which nearly cleared the fence. He would settle with his 15th double of the year.

As the Astros kept on hitting, Dodgers announcer Orel Hershiser would bring up the sign-stealing scandal of them. For the unversed, the AL West team was found to be stealing signs of opposition pitchers at their home stadium and signaling their batters with loud banging of trash cans and whistles during 2017 and 2018.

I don’t want to open an old wound. But in some ways, they’re swinging at these breaking balls like they know what is coming.

The Dodgers were one of the teams that were severely affected by the sign-stealing scandal of the Astros. The two teams faced off in the 2017 World Series. In this, the Astros ended up winning the best-of-seven series 4-3 and clinched their first World Series title in franchise history.

As the clip of Hershiser went viral across social media, analyst Ben Verlander joined in to express his views. While many slammed the veteran announcer for bringing this up, Verlander took a hilarious swipe at him and the team on X.

Oh my god the Dodgers are getting beat so bad their broadcast accused them of cheating

At that stage, the Dodgers were just 4-1 down. The real damage began in the sixth inning of the game. The Astros scored 10 runs in this inning against pitcher Noah Davis.

The pitcher would first load up the bases, have a Hit By Pitch (HBP), and give up a grand slam to Victor Caratini. Later in the inning, he gave up a 3-run home run to Jose Altuve.

The Dodgers were outsmarted from the very beginning. The Astros would quickly jump on rookie pitcher Ben Casparius and then go all-out against Noah Davis. While speaking to the reporters after the game, Roberts also admitted that Casparius was not ‘good’ out on the mound.

That was one you want to flush as soon as possible. I don’t think there was many positives from this night. I don’t think Ben was good tonight. It seemed like they were on everything he threw up there.

This loss brought an end to the 4-game winning run of the Dodgers. Despite the loss, the team is still sitting comfortably on top of the NL West division with a 56-33 record. As for the Astros, they also have a healthy 7-game lead in their division for the first spot with a 53-35 record.
