The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again the kings of the National League West. On Thursday, the LA side clinched their 4th straight division title. Manager Dave Roberts would laud his team and claimed that the division runs through them.
The Dodgers entered this season as the defending World Series champions. After winning the division title last year, they knocked out the San Diego Padres from the National League Division Series (NLDS). This saw them run through two New York teams.
In the National League Championship Series (NLCS), the Dodgers took down the New York Mets in 6 games and set up a clash with the New York Yankees. In the World Series, they dominated the Bronx Bombers and won their 8th World Championship in 5 games.
They started the season strong and won their opening 8 games. They did stumble a bit in the midst of the season and got swept by the Los Angeles Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Their slump in form allowed the San Diego Padres to come back into the divisional race. On Thursday, the Dodgers registered a thumping 8-0 shutout win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With them being 3 games ahead of the Padres and just 3 games remaining, they were crowned the division champion as they own the tiebreaker over the Padres.

Following the game, manager Dave Roberts lauded the team. He would speak highly about how the players stuck together when things got tough for them.
We believe that the National League West runs through Los Angeles… So proud of the way that these guys fought, persevered, everyone was accountable, no one made excuses, and we grew from a lot of adversity.

This title is the Dodgers’ 12th division title in the last 13 years. Despite winning 106 games in the 2021 season, the team lost out on top spot to the San Francisco Giants, who won 107 games. The Arizona Diamondbacks last won the division title in 2011 while the Padres last won it in 2006. The Colorado Rockies meanwhile, have never won the division title.
Dodgers looking to do something that has not be done since 2000
The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again playoff bound. The team from Southern California clinched it’s 23rd divisional title on Thursday. They are now looking to do something that has not be done since the year 2000.

The year 2000 was the last time a team repeated as World Series Champions. The New York Yankees completed a 3-peat of the World Series that year. They were unable to do it 4-in-a-row as they lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 Fall Classic.
Since the Yankees’ triumph in 2000, no team has repeated as World Series winners. The Philadelphia Phillies won the title in 2008 but lost the following year against the Yankees.
For the Dodgers to repeat as World Series champions this year, they will have to go an extra mile. With the Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers both having better records than them, the NL West champions will have to play in the Wild Card Series.
This would mean the Dodgers will need to first win two out of the three Wild Card games to reach the NLDS. They will need a total of 13 wins in the postseason to go back-to-back and become the first team in 25 years to win successive World Series crown.
Before that, the Dodgers will be looking to finish the regular season on a positive note. They will face the Seattle Mariners in the final series. In five weeks, this showdown between the two teams could be a potential World Series matchup.
