The Los Angeles Dodgers have another addition to their roster. The 2024 World Series Champion signed relief pitcher Kirby Yates on a one-year $13 million deal. To make up space for him, they have Designated for Assignment (DFA) Ryan Brasier.
The Dodgers, who already have a star-studded lineup, announced the signing of Yates on Thursday. This move comes a few days after they landed Tanner Scott on a 4-year $72 million deal.
The Dodgers bullpen already contained Blake Treinen, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, and Alex Vesia. In order for Yates to become a part of it, the Dodgers designated Brasier for assignment.
He was brought back to the team last season on a two-year $4.5 million deal. The 37-year-old pitcher break onto the major leagues again after signing a minor league deal in June 2023.
During the 2024 season, Brasier participated in 29 games and had a 1-0 record. In the 28 innings which he pitched, he had 25 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.54. His ERA in the postseason went a bit higher as he pitched with 5.00 ERA in 8 games and had a 1-1 record.

Turns out you can’t have an unlimited number of players on the 40-man roster. Somebody will get a solid although older reliever!
