However, recent developments have cast a shadow over this once-solid friendship. In October 2024, amidst a heated feud with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar, Drake unfollowed several celebrities on Instagram, including LeBron James. This was only compounded over the last few days with Drake throwing shots at James in the leaked ‘Fighting Irish Freestyle’ song.
Drake’s friendship timeline with LeBron James
The relationship between Drake and LeBron James has been well-documented over the years. Their initial meeting in 2009 set the foundation for a friendship that would see numerous public interactions. Drake frequently attended James’ games, and James, in turn, supported Drake’s musical endeavors, even appearing in the music video for Drake’s hit collaboration ‘Forever’.
Their bond extended beyond mere appearances. In 2021, both invested in the PGA Tour through the Strategic Sports Group, showcasing a shared interest in expanding their business ventures by becoming partners in the field.
Despite this, their current relationship is tumultuous, if not non-existent at present. This disconnect between the two may emerge from LeBron James’ outspoken support of Kendrick Lamar in the aftermath of his beef with Drake. This speculation is only aided by Drake’s “Fighting Irish” freestyle, where he addressed feelings of betrayal by close associates, a.k.a, LeBron James.
