The Miami Dolphins’ fans are in jubilation after the team extended head coach Mike McDaniel‘s contract following the contract extension of star QB Tua Tagavailoa. The fans are ascertaining the management decision as a smart move heading into the NFL regular season in just about a week.

Mike McDaniel joined the Dolphins in 2022 as the 14th head coach. McDaniel also brought in intense experience from his time as intern and assistant in multiple NFL outfits. He quickly rose to fame with his wit and idiosyncrasies as well as his offensive coordination. His contract was supposed to end by 2025.

McDaniel is one of the most successful coaches in Dolphins’ recent history. In two seasons, the 41-year-old has posted a winning record of 20-14. The extension comes in light of the wonderful season they had last year.

The last two campaigns were the first time that they have been to two straight playoffs since 2000-01. However, the Dolphins are yet to taste the success of a postseason win—something that will be on McDaniel’s agenda ahead of this season.

McDaniel is a breath of fresh air after the disappointing stints of Joe Philbin, Adam Gase, and Brian Flores. He was also able to nurture players into their full potential especially in the case of Tua Tagovailoa. The player has commended the coach for his support and help and called out Flores for his bad coaching.

With Tagovailoa and McDaniel confirmed, The Fins expect some good news

Tua Tagovailoa would be key to the post season success.  In the past two years, he has ranked second in the NFL in pass yards per attempt (8.5) and passer rating (102.9), fourth in total passing yards (8,172) and fifth in passing TDs (54).

Furthermore, The Dolphins just seem to perform better when Tagovailoa plays. In last two years, The Dolphins have scored 27.6 points per game with him as the starter and 16.3 PPG in four games that Tagovailoa missed with injury. The fans hope that the QB and the coach together will be the “smart move” that lands them their first postseason win since 2000.

As it is with everything, there were some people who agree with the decision. The agitated fans took shots at McDaniel’s playoff record and blamed his chill attitude.

The duo, especially McDaniel, has a lot to prove. The grind will be on since the first game when the Dolphins start their campaign against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 8.
