There weren’t many expectations surrounding Amon-Ra St. Brown when the Detroit Lions drafted him in the fourth round. However, three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro titles in four years have helped him establish himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league.

Jack Jones experienced St. Brown’s trickery firsthand when they faced each other at the Lions-Dolphins joint practice over the last few days. He told the reporters:

Y’all seen the tape… [St. Brown] cooked me. But I got better from that, and I’m learning a technique that I’m not used to doing, so he made me better.

Jones, best known for intercepting Patrick Mahomes in the Raiders’ 20-14 Christmas Day win over the Chiefs in 2023, is settling into the Dolphins system after signing with the AFC East club in the offseason.

I would like to consider myself an off-corner…I got to get up in the guy’s face. Just learning different tricks and different techniques to help me get myself in the right position.

Both Jones and St. Brown were part of the USC Trojans in college. However, in 2017, Jones left USC and transferred to Moorpark Community College due to poor grades. St. Brown enrolled at USC a year later, spending three seasons before announcing availability for the draft in 2021.

Amon-Ra St. Brown weighs in on the Colts quarterback situation

St. Brown caught 6 passes for 62 yards in a 24-6 blowout victory over the Indianapolis Colts last season. Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson threw 11 completions from 28 attempts (39%) for 172 yards and zero touchdowns. He further ran 10 times with the ball for 61 yards.

While the Lions won the NFC North with a 15-2 record and qualified for the divisional round, the Colts recorded an 8-9 season and missed the playoffs. Questions were raised about Richardson’s credentials as a franchise quarterback.

The Colts brought in former Giants and Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones to challenge AR for the starting quarterback job. Earlier this week, the Colts picked Jones over Richardson as their starting quarterback for week one of the 2025 regular season of football. St. Brown commented on Jones winning the quarterback battle on his podcast.

To me, it was a shocker. Daniel Jones was named the starting quarterback for the Colts over Anthony Richardson, who was in his third year—a guy that got drafted, I think top five for the Colts, in his third year, like, ‘Alright, let’s bench him.’

The Lions won’t play the Colts in 2025, but they are scheduled to play against the Houston Texans in their preseason finale. Once that ends, Dan Campbell’s Lions will prepare for the week one fixture in Wisconsin against the Green Bay Packers.

According to CBS Sports, the Packers (-1.5, 49.5) cover at home versus the Lions. The Commanders exposed the Lions, especially containing quarterback Jared Goff.

Traditionally, the Packers have dominated their North rivals. They hold a 78-104-7 record against the Detroit franchise. However, the Lions did the double over the Packers. The last game ended with a 31-34 scoreline.
