With the recent string of burglaries in the homes of several big-name NFL players, including Bengals star Joe Burrow—Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa felt the need to secure his own house. The best course of action was to increase security by hiring armed personnel.

While the Bengals were busy playing the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington on Monday night, unidentified men stormed Burrow’s home. The Pro Bowler first heard the news a day later, which sent shockwaves through the entire NFL.

Tagovailoa did not waste time to amp up security around his home. After Wednesday’s practice, the 26-year-old who signed a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension in July, spoke about protecting his family.

I have personal security. Just let that be known, they are armed. So I hope if you decide to go to my house, you think twice.

It’s an unwanted headache for Tua and the Dolphins when they have to focus most of their energy on winning games to stay in the hunt for a wild card spot. However, the safety of the family always comes first.

The Dolphins increased their chances of playing football in January after beating AFC East rivals the New York Jets in overtime. It improved their record to 6-7 with four games left in the regular season. In week 15, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins will travel to Texas and play against the Houston Texans.

What incidents spooked Tua Tagovailoa to increase security around his house?

Burrow wasn’t the only one who fell prey to burglary. Before him, Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes went through a similar experience. Even his teammate, tight end Travis Kelce, met the same fate.

Back in October, when Tagovailoa was still on the concussion protocol, both Mahomes and Kelce’s houses were burglarized mere hours apart. According to the police investigation, nothing too valuable was missing from the house except for cash and a few watches, later recovered far away from the property.

There’s undeniably a cause for concern for NFL players because they don’t often get the chance to visit their houses when the season is in full swing. So, Tagovailoa made the correct choice of making his house secure in his absence.

In the meantime, the Alabama graduate has turned the fortunes of the Dolphins around. Since returning to the roster, the Dolphins won four games from seven games. He played a total of nine games this year and completed 240 passes for 2456 yards (73.8% completion rate), 17 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions while taking 18 sacks.
