The Miami Dolphins are attempting to strengthen their quarterback room amidst the uncertainty prevailing around Tua Tagovailoa‘s return from concussion protocol. The team signed Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad as per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Before signing Tyler Huntley, the Miami Dolphins had Skylar Thompson backing up Tua Tagovailoa. With the addition of Huntley, they now have a Pro Bowl passer who can fill in until the starting QB is fit to return.

Huntley has had trouble finding a home as he initially signed with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent in March. Eventually, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens after the Browns released him towards the end of August.

Skylar Thompson is expected to start for the Dolphins against the Seahawks

The team will take a call on Thompson based on his performance this Sunday. Tyler Huntley’s addition comes as no surprise. HC Mike McDaniel had stated the team’s intent to bring another quarterback on board on Thursday after Tagovailoa’s unfortunate injury.

An undrafted quarterback out of Utah, Tyler Huntley was signed by the Ravens and spent four years in the capacity of a backup to Lamar Jackson. He got the opportunity to start in 2022 after Jackson went down with a season-ending injury in Week 13.

Huntley excelled and started in five games including a playoff game and made it to the Pro Bowl. He has immense potential and has proven himself to be a reliable quarterback.

The Dolphins will take a call on their quarterback for Week 4’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans after watching how well the Pro Bowler can grasp the Dolphins’ playbook.
