Dominic Thiem rejects Novak Djokovic led PTPA; says ATP is doing a ‘good job’

Earlier this year, before the start of the US Open in September, World No.1, Novak Djokovic and former top-30 member, Vasek Pospisil formed a new player representative body, PTPA – Professional Tennis Players’ organization.
Tennis has been politically unstable since then and it shot up a notch further this week when the ATP banning any PTPA member from sitting on their Players Council.
After his win over Andrey Rublev at the ATP Finals, World No.3 Dominic Thiem was asked if he were interested in joining the ATP Player council or the Djokovic led PTPA.
To which the Austrian stated, “I like what the ATP is doing. Generally, they are doing a great job, I don’t see a reason to join another association. But everybody can of course do what he wants. I don’t feel ready now. But maybe in two or three years.”
I hope the Australian Open is happening: Dominic Thiem

In the post-match conference, the US Open champion was also enquired about his thoughts over the doubtful situation around the Australian Open next year.
Thiem, who holds no fear, said that, “If the Australian Open is the first tournament, then it’s going to be similar like the US Open. There was Cincinnati, but, well, for me personally, it was not a great warmup tournament as I lost the first round easy there.”
“In general, I hope that the Australian Open is happening, and if it’s happening without any tournament before, well, we have to live with that and try to go there early, prepare as well as possible for the major,” he concluded.
