Former NHL star Dominik Hasek lashed out at US President Donald Trump on Thursday. The 60-year-old blasted him and called him a “traitor” over his silence regarding Russia’s missile attack on Ukraine.

The ongoing military tensions between Russia and Ukraine saw more bloodshed on Thursday. As per reports, a Russian military attack took place in Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. Almost 12 people are reported to have been killed in this attack with several more left injured.

Hasek, who is active on X, would take a jab at US President Donald Trump for not condemning this attack by Russia. The former Buffalo Sabres goaltender labeled Trump as a “traitor” for criticizing Volodymyr Zelenskyy instead of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Tonight, Russia killed at least 9 people and injured 63 in Ukraine again. And at the same time, the Am. president @realDonaldTrump is unable to condemn these terrible crimes. He is unable to do everything to ensure that the greatest criminal of our time, Putin, is tried for his terrible crimes… The American president is a traitor to the democratic world.

Trump, however, did condemn the latest attack by Russia on Ukraine. In a post on his Truth Social account, the 47th US President expressed that he was not happy with the strikes from Russia and urged Putin to stop.

I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!

In a lengthy post on X, the Hockey Hall of Famer revealed that he had written two letters. One of them was sent to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and another one to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Hasek has also promised to publish the two letters online.

I inform them that former Russian President Medvedev threatened to kill me… I consider both letters very important not only for the IOC and IIHF, but for the entire sports and also non-sports  community. Therefore, I will publish them in a few days.

Since this tweet from Hasek, several Czech leaders have come forth in support of him. Medvedev meanwhile, currently works as the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. Before that, he served as the Russian President from May 2008 to May 2012.

Dominik Hasek previously called for ban on Alex Ovechkin and other Russian athletes from NHL

Since the Russia-Ukraine war, several Russian athletes have been banned from Olympic events. Dominik Hasek, the Czech Republic international, had called for the ban of Alex Ovechkin and other Russian athletes from the NHL.

Through a post on X in 2022, he expressed that the NHL must immediately suspend the contracts of Russian players from the league. He would do this after Ovechkin hoped for an end to the hostilities between the two countries and an end to the war. The Capitals’ captain does have close ties with Putin, which has led to many slamming him.

The NHL did not ban Russian stars from competing, and allowed them to play. A few days ago, Ovechkin went on to make NHL history as he became the all-time goal-scoring leader and surpassed the 894 goals record of Wayne Gretzky.
