President Donald Trump loves sports and tries to watch as much as he can, given his much more important task of running a country. His usual repertoire of sports includes the NFL and UFC, but now, the WNBA has entered the chat.

Trump has been actively involved in the conversations regarding the Washington Commanders’ name, as well as their upcoming stadium. He also makes it a point to attend UFC events, owing to the support the sports fans have for him, and specifically, from Dana White.

When it comes to the WNBA, he has never revealed any particular interest. Just once has he talked about Caitlin Clark, but that’s just it. Now his son, Donald Trump Jr., has brought his father into the conversation.

He posted a picture on his IG page that shows his father, President Donald Trump, standing on the rooftop of the White House, throwing a neon green NSFW toy down onto a basketball court with women playing on it.

This meme comes after multiple instances where fans threw similar neon green NSFW toys onto WNBA courts. These incidents have brought up security concerns as time and again, fans enter arenas with such toys despite the league imposing a ‘no bag policy.’

Creating a meme based on the most powerful man in the country could end up exacerbating the situation. So far, two fans have been arrested for throwing these objects, and the hunt is on for the other three.

WNBA NSFW toy throwing linked to crypto scheme

When Donald Trump Jr. posted this meme, he believed it was just a prank taking place in the WNBA. He might not have known that there could be a different, financially driven motive behind these incidents.

A group of people during an audio livestream on X reveled in the moment and celebrated its potential to help boost the value of a particular memecoin, a cryptocurrency deriving from an internet meme but traded through very real markets online.

This was The Athletic’s Ben Pickman, who revealed in an article that these NFSW toy-throwing incidents were linked to a memecoin. The coin was created on July 28.

The very next day, WNBA fans witnessed the first neon green NSFW toy land on the court. Pickman notes that as of Thursday, the coin’s worth had nearly tripled in its first week.

Pickman revealed that certain live streams connected with this memecoin had users talking about the incidents happening at each game. All of this has led to a trading volume of more than $1.5 million between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

WNBA head coaches slam crypto schemers for making a joke out of the league

All of this might be a joke and a means to make money for those schemers, but it is happening at the expense of the WNBA. The women in the W initially joked about it, but now, voices of displeasure have been emanating.

It’s not funny. The s**ualization of women is what’s used to hold women down. And this is no different. This is just its latest form. We’re not the butt of the joke. They are the problem. And we need to take action. We’re not the butt of the joke. They are the problem. And we need to take action.

The Minnesota Lynx and Team USA head coach wants the league to take action. Los Angeles Sparks head coach Lynn Roberts echoed those comments and added that it was ‘dangerous’, which calls for the league to prioritize player safety.

Now with Donald Trump’s son joining in, it is unclear how many more such incidents will take place. Generally, people tend to follow the leader. The league would hope that the President takes a stand at some point.
