Tua Tagovailoa is challenging himself to contribute more to the community aside from being a top quarterback in the NFL. Tagovailoa answered the call from Donald Trump and agreed to be part of the group that will spread the word of his initiative to reintroduce the Presidential Fitness Test.
Trump invited the group to the White House for the initiation process. The group included renowned faces of football such as HOF Lawrence Taylor, Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, Chiefs K Harrison Butker, and WWE Superstar Triple H.
Tua and Barkley weren’t present for the big moment, but Trump did not forget to mention the two key members of his team. Unfortunately, his old issue of botching a name returned while calling out Tua’s last name. Trump pronounced it, “Tua, Tag-O-Vaaliah”

It’s actually astonishing that no one gave him a prompt on how to say the name of the Miami Dolphins QB. Fortunately, he did not have to recite Tua’s given name: Tuanigamanuolepola Donny Tagovailoa.
Trump somewhat redeemed himself by wishing the best of luck to Tagovailoa and advising him to stay fit throughout the season.
As for the President’s Fitness Test, it was first introduced by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, creating school-based programs that reward “excellence in physical education.”
According to an excerpt from CNN, the test graded a student based on:
- sit-ups (timed out for one minute)
- push-ups (as many as possible without a rest)
- pull-ups (as many as possible) or flex arm hang (as long as possible)
- Thirty-foot shuttle run
- V-seat reach
- One-mile run
Will Tua Tagovailoa play in the preseason games for the Miami Dolphins?
The football season is almost upon us. It more or less kicked off with the Hall of Fame game in Canton, between the Chargers and the Lions, on the very day of Trump’s announcement.

As for the Dolphins, they are scheduled to play against the Chicago Bears in their preseason opener. Now, the question that many Dolphins fans would like to have answered is whether Mike McDaniel will allow Tagovailoa to play in the Bears game or any of the other friendlies, for that matter.
The Pro Bowler appeared in one last year, taking a grand total of 11 snaps. However, considering he spent a lot of time on the concussion protocol, McDaniel should save his QB1 for week one of football. Tagovailoa, meanwhile, revealed that he wouldn’t mind sneaking in a few snaps.
I’d definitely love to get some preseason snaps in, no doubt. It’s a new season, it’s a new year. Got to get things tuned in with the guys again, all of that. I don’t think I’m better than anyone on this team or think I’m too cool to get reps on during preseason games. I don’t mind that at all, I would love that.

The Dolphins have other QBs they can finally turn to, unlike previous years. McDaniel signed former first-rounder Zach Wilson, who spent the last season in Denver, and also drafted ex-Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the seventh round.

Ewers, in particular, has been making waves in the training camp and is the likeliest candidate to take his first snaps in the NFL during the preseason games.
Tagovailoa played 11 games in 2024. He completed 72.9% of his passes for 2867 yards and threw 19 touchdowns.
