Roger Clemens once again failed to reach the MLB Hall of Fame on Sunday. Despite a massive push from US President Donald Trump, the 11-time MLB All-Star received insufficient votes on the Contemporary Baseball Era committee on Sunday.

Clemens was one of the 8 players on the Contemporary Baseball era committee ballot this year. The former Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees pitcher fell off the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) ballot in 2022 after he received 65.2 per cent votes in his final attempt.

A player requires 75 per cent votes from the BBWAA members to reach the MLB Hall of Fame. After dropping from this ballot, “Rocket” found himself on the Contemporary Baseball era committee ballot.

Just like the BBWAA, Clemens needed 75 per cent from the 16-member panel on Sunday. Unfortunately for him, he once again failed in this.

The 2-time World Series winner received fewer than 5 votes and was then dropped from the ballot alongside Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield and Fernando Valenzuela. Only Jeff Kent received the minimum number of votes and was elected to the Hall of Fame.

Before the results were announced, President Donald Trump advocated for Clemens. In a series of posts on Truth Social, the 79-year-old expressed that the pitcher was acquitted of all his charges and should be in the Hall of Fame. He even urged Clemens to “sue” the MLB if he did not reach Cooperstown.

Roger Clemens, who won 354 games, went through his own Witch Hunt. HE WAS ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES!!! If he doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame, he should sue the hell out of Major League Baseball!

Donald Trump said regarding Roger Clemens on Truth Social

The Mitchell Report in 2007 accused Clemens of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) during his career. Clemens would deny this allegations under oath of the United States Congress.

He was later indicted on six felony counts, including perjury, false statements, and contempt of Congress. He would plead not guilty, and in 2012, he was acquitted of all charges.

This, however, had a major impact on his Hall of Fame chances. The 7-time Cy Young Award winner never received the minimum number of votes to reach Cooperstown and failed to make it to the Hall of Fame.

Despite a strong push from Trump this time out, he once again came up short. As per the rules of the Contemporary Baseball Era committee, he, Bonds, Sheffield and Valenzuela will be off the ballot in the next cycle in 2028.

MLB insider takes indirect swipe at Roger Clemens following another failed Hall of Fame bid

Roger Clemens’ bid for the MLB Hall of Fame came up short once again. The pitcher received fewer than five votes and fell off the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee ballot. Following his failure, an MLB insider took an indirect swipe at him and others.

Along with Clemens, stars like Gary Sheffield and Barry Bonds also received fewer than 5 votes. The trio were accused of using PEDs during their playing career. While all of them have denied these allegations, their connection in this has left a huge mark on their careers.

In a post on X, insider Jon Heyman took an indirect swipe at them. He would drop the words “steroid cheats” and highlight their accusation of using steroids as a reason for their failure to reach the Hall of Fame.

One thing we learned from today’s Hall vote: Hall of Famers and executives like steroid cheats even less than writers do. Good for them!

Clemens currently sits third on the most strikeouts list with 4,672, just behind Hall of Famers Randy Johnson (4,875) and Nolan Ryan (5,714). He is also part of the 300-wins club and sits 9th for the most wins with a 354-184 record.
