The Alabama Crimson Tide, ranked 8, started their season with a loss to an unranked Florida State Seminoles, ending their 23-year streak of winning season openers. The Crimson Tide was left speechless after a stellar performance from new quarterback Thomas Castellanos crushed their hopes.

Castellanos rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown from 16 carries while passing for 152 yards from 9-for-14 attempts. The win has put the Seminoles in the Top 5 of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Meanwhile, Alabama joined the Texas Longhorns as the only two teams to lose in the first week of the Southeastern Conference.

The Seminoles were physical from the start and were quite the aggressors. The opponents, however, looked like a shambling, and their inadequacies to break through the defense was quite visible. The loss has become national news, with images of the Seminoles’ fans storming the field in joy and elation being on everyone’s feed.

It sure did catch the President’s attention. Donald Trump, who made a public appearance after quite some days, made a brief reference to the crushing loss when he announced that the Space Command headquarters would move from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama.

In his speech, Trump thanked Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville for his help in the relocation of the headquarters. Amidst the grace, Trump took a shot at the Crimson Tide while noting the fact that Tuberville used to be a football coach.

Tommy Tuberville, who’s a great coach. And I won’t say anything about what happened with Alabama football this weekend. But you’re not used to that, right?

Donald Trump said

However, the Senator coached the Auburn Tigers, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and Cincinnati during his coaching career.

Tuberville, who was present at the venue, pointed out that Auburn had won the game in Week 1. Auburn, one of the bitter rivals of the Crimson Tide, had defeated Baylor 38-24 on Friday to begin its season 1-0. The president quickly corrected himself, saying, “Auburn won is right. So you’re happy.” Nevertheless, mistake or not, Trump’s jab at the Crimson Tide was evident.

The state of Florida had a good beginning to the college football season

The Florida State Seminoles’ beating the Alabama Crimson Tide was not the lone upset of the first week from the Sunshine State. The Miami Hurricanes secured their first win against a Top 10-ranked team in almost eight years as they rallied to defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Canes, led by quarterback Carson Beck, defeated the Irish 27-24. Beck threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns from 19-for-30 attempts. The game also saw one of the best one-handers when CJ Daniels leaped in the air for a spectacle. The Canes’ defense equally shone through as they prevented the Irish from making a last-minute comeback.

Earlier, on August 29, the South Florida Bulls defeated the Boise State Broncos at the Raymond James Stadium. The Bulls dropped the Broncos 34-7 and earned their first win against a ranked team since 2016. Their last win against a ranked opponent came in 2016 when the Bulls defeated the Navy. The Bulls’ demolition also might lead to the Broncos dropping out of the ranked teams, as they were 25th before the start of the game.

The Florida Gators had a stress-free start as they shut the Long Island University 55-0. The Sharks, who play in the Northeast Conference of the FCS Division, were an unmatched pair for the Gators. The Gators played two quarterbacks, Tramell Jones Jr. and DJ Lagway, both of whom recorded 2 and 3 touchdowns, respectively. Vernell Brown matched Daniels with similarly “Catch of The Year” candidate one-hander.

The Florida International University also emerged victorious, defeating a fellow Florida school, Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 42-9 at their home. In Orlando, the UCF Knights defeated the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 17-10. However, the Florida Atlantic Owls and the Florida A&M Rattlers lost their first games to Maryland and Howard, respectively.
