The Undertaker talks about how a wrester’s “Gladiator Spirit” negatively impacts their health

WWE has become increasingly wary about their superstars’ health in the past few years, especially when it comes to concussions. While the promotion does its best to take care of things as soon as a concussion is detected, sometimes the wrestlers are adamant about pushing through. On his Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker was recently joined by Booker T. The two Hall of Famers discussed how all wrestlers had a gladiatorial spirit in them, which negatively impacted their health.

The Lord of Darkness talked about how sportspeople like football players, MMA fighters, and professional wrestlers were all highly prone to concussions. They should always do their due diligence and constantly consult doctors. However, these athletes often have a “gladiatorial spirit” which comes in the way of them seeking help.

I had this silly mentality that I’m going to go out in my shield, that’s how I want to go out. And then you get to that point where things are starting to happen and then you realize that, ‘I’m a young man and I got a lot of my life left, I have a young wife, I have kids. You really have to put all of those things into perspective.

The two superstars talked about several NFL players who had been the victims of major concussions in their careers. This led to them having to step back from their sport. Booker T added that it was not easy to tell someone who loves what they do to not do it anymore.

The former WWE Champion himself has been the victim of many concussions throughout his career. The most infamous one probably occurred during his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30. The erstwhile American Badass has stated in recent years that he has no recollection of the match that ended his WrestleMania streak.
