The 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, praised the Cleveland Browns’ 45th starting quarterback since 1994, Shedeur Sanders, following the latter’s win on debut start. In the aftermath of the injury sustained by fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Sanders stepped up for the Browns against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday (November 23).
The young rookie completed around 55% of his passes for 209 yards and one touchdown and an interception against the Raiders. Fans as well as sports analysts and the media have lauded Sanders’ turnaround after a disappointing debut game last week. Sanders’ performance also caught the eye of the sitting President of the nation.
Donald Trump, who recently became the third sitting president to attend an NFL regular-season game, is a fan of the sport. He has previously commented on many aspects of the game, including the new kickoff rule and a potential reversion of the Washington Commanders’ name. After Sanders’ spectacular start, Trump gave him a shout out on Truth Social.
Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!

Earlier in April, Trump blasted on social media after Shedeur Sanders was not picked up on the first day. He claimed that Sanders is the son of a former NFL great, Deion Sanders, who played equally well in college as well. He criticized the NFL owners for not selecting Sanders and asked them to do so immediately.
Later, the White House press secretary hinted that Trump played a role in the Cleveland Browns selecting Sanders in the fifth round. In an interview with Hugh Hewitt, Trump revealed the reasons behind his backing of Sanders: one, Deion is a Trump fan, and Trump likes people who have spoken well about him over the years; two, Trump sides with nature and genetics in the nature-nurture debate.
Shedeur Sanders set to start Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers
The Cleveland Browns announced that the Colorado Buffaloes alum will continue as their starter in Week 13 when they host the San Francisco 49ers. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced the decision on Monday afternoon.

In his press conference, Stefanski praised the rookie for his command of the field and ability to make big plays while tricking the defensive coordinators.
The next thing is improvement. And that’s what young players do, certainly young quarterbacks do, you get one game better and that’s just from working at it.

He also announced that Dillon Gabriel will serve as the backup for Sanders against the Niners. Gabriel has cleared the concussion protocol. This means Bailey Zappe will be back as the third-string quarterback in the upcoming game.
It is unclear what the Browns have planned for Deshaun Watson.
The San Francisco 49ers would test Sanders on how he fares against a much higher-ranked team. The 49ers, despite their plethora of injuries, are ranked seventh in the NFC with seven wins so far. The Niners have the fewest number of sacks on their quarterbacks, and surely Myles Garrett, who loves to inflict damage, will play a huge role in the matchup.
The 49ers are also running high on desperation. They will look forward to having a healthy record entering the bye week. The games against the Cleveland Browns and the Tennessee Titans will play a crucial role in their hunt for the playoffs, which they missed last year, finishing last in the division. After the Week 14 parlay with the Titans, the 49ers have three main playoff contenders facing them.
The Browns, on the other hand, have a defense known for its ability to disrupt plans, and they will look forward to doing just that.
