On Thursday, Donald Trump dropped a major claim regarding Tiger Woods. The U.S. President claimed that the golfer will not be playing in the 2026 Masters Tournament.

In the past few weeks, there have been several speculations regarding the future of Woods. With the Masters Tournament around the corner, many have questioned whether the 15-time major champion would play in this event.

Woods has been out of action for a long time. He has not made a start on the PGA Tour since the 2024 Open Championship, where he missed the cut.

This week, he finally took part in some sort of action. During the TGL finals against the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), the Jupiter Links GC captain took part in Game 2.

He would seem in control during the early stages. He would hit a stinger on hole 6, which left the fans hyped up.

The night, however, did not end in the way he had hoped for. The LAGC would run away with the title with an epic performance over 5 holes to clinch Game 2 with a 9-2 score. They would thus win the best-of-three series 2-0 and become the TGL champions in the 2nd season.

After this showing, the speculations regarding Woods’ return rose. In the midst of this, Donald Trump casually dropped a major claim regarding him. In an appearance on “The Five“, the 79-year-old claimed that Woods will not compete in the Masters Tournament.

I love Tiger, but he won’t be there. Well, he’ll be there, but he won’t be playing in it.

Woods and Trump have a good relationship. The two of them have played golf together a few times. In 2019, the golfer was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump.

Last year, the U.S. President would even pay tribute to Kultida Woods, the mother of Woods, following her passing. A few months later, he would support the 82-time PGA Tour winner over his relationship with his ex-daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump.

Speaking of Woods, he will be at the Masters Tournament for the Champions Dinner. This year, this event will be headlined by Rory McIlroy following his grand slam success last year.

Tiger Woods claimed that he was “trying” to be ready for the Masters Tournament

Donald Trump sent a massive shockwave across the golf community on Thursday with his comments regarding Tiger Woods. This came just a few days after the golfer expressed that he was “trying” to be ready for the Masters Tournament.

Last year, Woods ruptured his Achilles tendon while preparing for the Masters Tournament. In September, he would undergo a 7th back surgery. This time he went under the knife to replace his disc.

Since then, he has been working to get in shape for competitive action. According to him, his body, however, takes longer to heal now than it used to in his 20s.

I’ve been trying. Just this body is, it doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I’ve been trying for a while.

Tiger Woods told the reporters at TGL

The Masters Tournament is an event where Woods has an exceptional record. In his professional career, he has never missed the cut in this major championship.

His first major triumph came at the Masters in 1997. During that tournament, he dominated the playing field and finished 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Tom Kite. It is till date the largest winning margin in this event.

His last major victory also came at the Masters. 22 years on from that famous win, Woods came back from behind to break an 11-year major drought and claimed his 5th Masters victory in 2019. This was the first time in his illustrious career that he had won a major while not being the leader/co-leader after 54 holes.

The big question now is whether Trump’s comments regarding him not playing this year are true or not. As always, only time will reveal that answer.
