The Washington Commanders’ home game tomorrow against the Detroit Lions will have a known figure in the owners’ box. The sitting American president, Donald Trump, will join the fans to watch the game between the NFC conference rivals.

Amidst his appearance at the game, he has made a bizarre request to the Commanders’ management. The septuagenarian has apparently asked the Commanders to name their new stadium, which was approved this year, after him.

The $3.7 billion stadium is set to bring the Commanders’ back to Washington, D.C., from Maryland, where they play now. The stadium is being constructed on the old RFK Stadium site, where the team played from 1961 to 1996.

A senior White House official confirmed there have been private conversations with someone in the Commanders’ ownership group, headed by Josh Harris. The goal of this group was reportedly to convey that Trump wants the new domed stadium in Washington to carry his name. ESPN spoke with Karoline Leavitt, who claimed that the president played a huge role in rebuilding the old stadium.

That would be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in an email to ESPN on Friday night

Meanwhile, another senior official in White House mentioned that the president has asked for it and it will happen according to his desire. However, things haven’t always gone according to his wishes. He has admitted that he wished that the Commanders change their name back to the previous controversial franchise name, and even claimed that he will block the stadium deal if it doesn’t happen.

Washington Commanders still optimistic about a rebound from the despair and losses

The Washington Commanders were one of the strongest teams last year, defeating the conference top seed and their upcoming week’s foe to reach the NFC Championship Game. The first Conference Championship game appearance in decades and the rise of Jayden Daniels gave Washington fans hope for the first time in ages. Jersey sales reached new peaks while tickets sold out rapidly.

In the offseason this year, they made some more calculations and added more depth and strength to their roster. They were expected to be one of the top teams in the league once again, but the trajectory hasn’t been what they had hoped for. The Commanders are 3-6 with the season hanging on the balance.

The Commanders started the season with a win over the struggling New York Giants and held a 2-1 record by Week 3. In the last four games, the Commanders haven’t won a single game. They sustained losses to the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seattle Seahawks. As they prepare for the next game, they will be missing Daniels. But that’s not all.

The Commanders are banged up in several positions. Injuries have dwindled their starting squad, but despite it all, the Commanders are hopeful of a rebound and overcoming the losing record. Deebo Samuel, who was traded in from the San Francisco 49ers this season, recalled his 2021 season with the Niners. Samuel said that they came back and went to the conference game from a 3-5 record, and he still carries the hope that they can bounce back.

I don’t like to revert back to the team I played with, but I’ve been on a team that started 3-5 and made the NFC Championship. I still have all the belief in the world in this team that we can turn it around and get going.

The Commanders have a tough break, and maybe if they pull it together on both sides, they may get away with a win by rattling the Detroit Lions with the home-field advantage and exploiting the Lions’ failing secondary.
