There are quite a few athletes who take a keen interest in what is happening around the country. New York Liberty guard Natasha Cloud is one, and she has been especially vocal when she believes something is not right.
The 33-year-old was one of the first to speak out against current President Donald Trump during his campaign. She believed he was going to do everything that was not befitting of a nation trying to be the leader in every aspect.
The WNBA champion has voiced her displeasure over many of his policies, and most recently, asked Trump to be impeached after he bombed Iran without Congressional approval. Now, she is back with another dig at the 47th President after his remarks about New York mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani.
It’s reckless of our president. It’s reckless of this administration, but it’s also exciting for us as the people. That’s when you know we’re getting to them. That’s when you know we’re creating change that they don’t want. That’s when you know we’re dismantling the system.
Natasha Cloud said to reporters
After practice today, I asked Natasha Cloud about Trump’s callous rhetoric directed towards Zohran Mamdani in the days since Zohran’s Democratic mayoral primary win here in NYC. As always, Tash spoke with compassion, with urgency, with morality.

The Pennsylvania native has embraced New York as her second home and talked about how the city’s people should protect their rights. Natasha Cloud believes all of these words are proof that Donald Trump is worried about what will happen if Zohran Mamdani becomes New York’s mayor.
She slammed the Trump administration‘s efforts to tax the poor and benefit the rich with his Big Beautiful Bill, and hoped New Yorkers would bring Mamdani into power so that they could proceed with life as they know it.
Natasha Cloud has supported Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign
This is not the first time Natasha Cloud has supported Zohran Mamdani in his electoral campaign. Golden State Valkyries beat writer for Clutchpoints, Kenzo Fukuda, asked the Liberty guard about Mamdani after he won the mayoral primary.
Mamdani, my boy! It’s a big win for the people. It’s a huge win for the city of New York. He gets the worst PR because he’s a Muslim, he’s a socialist, and he’s a democrat. He believes that it is the government’s right to take care and make sure that all its constituents live a dignified life, regardless of who you are. It restored my hope in humanity a little bit.

“It restored my hope and humanity a little bit. Even with what’s happening in our government and country that the people will speak. The people will show up.” pic.twitter.com/SwBTlyQSZN
The 33-year-old believes there are good people around to ensure the country does not fall into a difficult time, especially when its citizens face enough problems. She believes Zohran Mamdani is the right person to help New York continue to be the city that it has always been.
Natasha Cloud and Liberty to embark on 8-game home run
Coming back to the team that Natasha Cloud plays for, they have had a tough run of games. After winning the first 9 games of the season, they have lost five of their last 7. They have missed Jonquel Jones due to injury, but the team is otherwise strong enough to win.

They are the reigning WNBA champions for a reason, and now that they will get Leonie Fiebich back from Eurobasket, their defense should be a lot better than before. The Liberty have been leaking points in their recent run of games.
More importantly, Cloud has to find her early-season form so that the team has more than enough firepower to compensate for Jones until she returns. Several teams are gunning to dethrone the Liberty.
To defend their crown, the last thing they need is to enter the postseason poorly in form. The next eight games will be at home. That should give them enough time to build up form before heading out on a road-game-filled closing stretch.
