Donald Trump's stand on LGBTQ policies has DiJonai Carrington worried

Since taking office, one of the first tasks new President Donald Trump completed was to revoke many LGBTQ policies. With the WNBA employing many players who are part of that community, the impact of the new policies has brought concerns to many, especially DiJonai Carrington.

The Connecticut Sun star has a vocal critic of the new President. All throughout the Presidential campaign, she was active on the platform X, speaking out on how Donald Trump‘s policies would be detrimental to the citizens of the country.

She topped that recently by arriving at an Unrivaled League game with a t-shirt that read, ‘The F*** Donald Trump Tour’. Rapper YG’s old tour merchandise was used to display what she feels about the new President. Now that Trump is employing the Republican’s view of having only two genders, the likes of Carrington talked about the problems WNBA players would face.

I definitely hope that happens soon, and obviously still it’s pretty fresh. But we see some of the policies that are going into action. Of course, that mean that, as the WNBA being at the forefront of a lot of these movements, it’s time for us to also take action.

The WNBA’s Most improved player spoke about this during an interview at the Unrivaled League. She has recently been engaged with Caitlin Clark‘s Indiana Fever teammate, NaLyssa Smith. Her concern is in relation to how certain states have aggressive stances against LGBTQ communities.

DiJonai Carrington loses another star teammate

At the Unrivaled League, WNBA free agency has been the most discussed topic. Players are doing their bit in recruiting prospective free agents to their teams. However, it seems the player to be most affected by the moves so far is DiJonai Carrington.

First, she lost her superstar teammate Alyssa Thomas to the Phoenix Mercury. That move also means that Thomas’ fiancée and fellow Connecticut Sun superstar DeWanna Bonner would also move back to the team that drafted her.

Now, as per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou revealed that another star player Brionna Jones is joining the Atlanta Dream. That means all three-star free agents have moved on. It leaves Carrington and last year’s trade acquisition Marina Mabrey as the lone top players left.

However, they will have Mercury guard Natasha Cloud joining. But even if the guard positions are secured, their front court lacks top players. How they tackle that in free agency will show the direction the team wants to move forward under new head coach Rachid Meziane.
