LeBron James may have hinted at his retirement. Every NBA fan has been wondering this question. Does he feel content to hang those notorious sneakers after two decades in the league and all the accomplishments he has made? By the looks of his latest X post, James seems to be teasing his retirement plans, leaving the NBA fans in major unrest.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ star forward is expected to return for the 2025–2026 NBA season. There have been rumors, though, that he is thinking about retiring. James’ retirement would be shocking. Though it still seems quite implausible, it is possible. The video was posted by James on X on June 14. During a phony press conference, he was questioned about the veracity of the retirement rumors.

In the video, there are cameras everywhere, and reporters are eager to ask the question. Then they did. “Are the retirement rumors true? What’s next?” Just as James opened his mouth to respond, the video cut off. James included a mysterious caption as well. It’s important to note that James did all this for an advertisement, but the way the video was shot left immense questions in the minds of the fans.

I’ve been asking myself the same question… 🤔👑 #ad

The Lakers are certainly waiting for an outcome. James has two choices. This could be his final season if he chooses to play in the penultimate year of his contract. He can also choose to sign for two more seasons instead of the last one. His supporters just hope that they won’t receive the terrible news of his decision to retire for another year, regardless of the path he takes.

But with his latest X post, these rumors have just intensified. However, James is not someone who would call it quits with a social media post. It’s quite evident he was teasing the NBA World and will mostly be back in time for the Lakers’ preseason matchups.

Fans left worried after coming across LeBron James’ social media post

The timing of LeBron James’ post contributed to arousing immense emotions. When the fans learned what would happen next, several of them were nearly devastated. Many fans took to various social media apps and sites to put forward their views and thoughts on this matter. It’s safe to say, many went through the emotions with this one. One fan wrote on X, “Don’t joke like that king you got a couple seasons left in you.” Check out some of the reactions below:

James participated in 70 games for the Lakers in the 2024–25 NBA season. He shot 51.3 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from three-point range, and he averaged 24.4 points a game, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal. The numbers are still up there with the best, even at the age of 40. Hence, the Lakers fans hope that this is just ‘another ad’ rather than something serious.

LeBron James and Luka Doncic are on the same wavelength regarding their advice to young players

Luka Doncic joined LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025 during the trade deadline. At that point, the NBA world was left stunned with two of the superstars joining forces to compete in the league. Notably, both have impacted the league in their own ways throughout their career’s. Recently, James and Doncic reached a similar conclusion about how to succeed as a basketball player and what guidance they would provide the next generation.

According to the stars on the “Mind the Game” podcast, it’s the idea of “starring in your role.”

One more thing is like for guys, know your role. Know what you do good and do that.

Luka Doncic said

James seemingly agreed to Doncic’s statement on the podcast. Both of the Lakers’ players are experienced in leading a team to the NBA Finals. Despite leading the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals, Doncic has not yet won a championship. LeBron, meanwhile, has won four titles and attended ten NBA Finals.
