Donte DiVincenzo holds no bad feelings towards the New York Knicks fans
There’s no denying the fact that Donte DiVincenzo’s single season with the New York Knicks left a lasting impact, as he became a fan favorite despite his recent trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Fans fell in love with him for his clutch performances in big games and record-setting three-point shooting which contributed to his popularity among Knicks fans.
There were rumors all over that Donte DiVincenzo was unhappy with his reduced role, especially when the Knicks tried to reenact the Villanova boys with the addition of Mikal Bridges. And in an attempt to set the record straight, ahead of the Knicks’ preseason game against the Timberwolves, he reaffirmed his fondness for the fans and the organization.
“My love for Knicks fans is through the roof. I’ve said it – it was one of my best years of my life playing here last year. It’s something you dream about doing. I didn’t plan to get traded. Knicks fans must not have enjoyed the sight, as on his return to Madison Square Garden during a preseason contest, he scored 15 points and had seven assists. They will also remember his one season with the Knicks, where he averaged a career-high 15.5 points and set a franchise record for three-pointers.
Despite his success, the Knicks ultimately traded DiVincenzo to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns, in order to address their need for scoring and size. Though his time in New York has come to an end, the Timberwolves seem like a good fit for his continued growth.
Donte DiVincenzo’s MSG return marked by heated exchanges
The Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks faced off for the first time since the blockbuster trade that sent KAT to New York in exchange for Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle, and Keita Bates-Diop. The game ended in a 115-110 victory for the Knicks, and fans were thrilled with the tensions that flared between DiVincenzo and his former team.
Fans thought the drama ended there, but later, DiVincenzo had a heated post-game exchange with Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson, requiring them to be separated. After the game, DiVincenzo addressed the incident, expressing his passion for his team.
"I wear my heart on my sleeve and that's all it was."
