Conor McGregor’s UFC return is already generating major attention across the MMA community ahead of UFC 329. The Irish star faces Max Holloway in a rematch nearly 13 years after their first meeting inside the Octagon. Despite his lengthy absence, McGregor undoubtedly remains the sport’s biggest attraction. Interestingly, rapper and longtime UFC fan, Drake, placed a substantial wager on his victory.

Drake has been a longtime UFC follower and regularly places high-profile bets on major fights through Stake. His wagers have repeatedly attracted attention because of the widely discussed “Drake Curse,” a superstition linking his public support with athletes suffering unexpected defeats. Despite that reputation, the Canadian rapper continues backing marquee fighters in some of combat sports’ biggest events.

McGregor has repeatedly built his career by overcoming difficult circumstances, but he enters UFC 329 as a +185 betting underdog. Holloway is the -225 favorite after remaining one of the UFC’s most active elite fighters in recent years. Despite those odds, Drake placed a $1 million wager on ‘The Notorious One’ through Stake, with the bet returning approximately $2.85 million if the Irishman wins.

This is not the first time Drake has publicly backed McGregor before a UFC fight. The rapper attended the UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-ins before McGregor’s lightweight title clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor ultimately lost by fourth-round submission, adding to Drake’s high-profile betting history.

McGregor and Drake’s relationship extends well beyond the UFC and combat sports. The Irishman has attended several of Drake’s concerts, including a 2016 show at Ireland’s Point Depot alongside Bono. McGregor later praised the Canadian superstar, highlighting their friendship beyond fight promotion.

Their friendship has also extended to family interactions outside the UFC. In 2023, McGregor praised Drake’s son Adonis after the youngster created the cover artwork for the rapper’s album For All the Dogs. The exchange further reflected the close relationship shared by McGregor and Drake beyond MMA.

Although the rapper has frequently supported McGregor and publicly backed him before major fights, his all-time favorite fighter is Nate Diaz. Drake revealed his preference during a livestream while still expressing admiration for the Irish superstar, highlighting his respect for both UFC stars.

Conor McGregor appears ready for his UFC return after nearly five years away and has promised to showcase his prime form. The former two-division champion now aims to prove that against Max Holloway at UFC 329. However, Drake’s latest wager has revived talk surrounding the “Drake Curse.”

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski knows Holloway well after facing him three times between 2019 and 2022. The Australian won the first two fights in a closely contested bouts, but dominated the Hawaiian star in third bout to close out their rivalry. Their rivalry helped define a pivotal era of the featherweight division.

Holloway enters UFC 329 as the betting favorite despite making his welterweight debut. McGregor has previously competed at 170 pounds and won, defeating Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone. Holloway’s favored status and recent activity ultimately led ‘Volk’ to predict a victory for the Hawaiian star.

I’m gonna have to go with Max Holloway. Conor McGregor hasn’t been in there for a while… He’s just not the same fighter that we’ve always seen. I feel Max is gonna cook him a little bit and get him in the 2nd or 3rd round. I feel like there might be a submission there.

Holloway has earned two submission victories in the UFC, finishing Andre Fili and Cub Swanson with guillotine chokes. Although renowned for his elite boxing and relentless pace, ‘Blessed’ has proven capable on the ground whenever he faces fighters with inferior grappling skills. That well-rounded skill set presents another challenge for McGregor at UFC 329.
