Drake Maye Could Join Tom Brady in Rare List if He Wins Super Bowl Against Seahawks

Drake Maye is the first quarterback since Tom Brady to throw for 4000+ yards in a Patriots jersey and to win the AFC Championship game. He could also join Brady to a Super Bowl ring as the starter since 2000.

Drake Maye can overwrite the MVP heartbreak by winning his maiden Super Bowl on February 8. By doing so, he would become just the second Patriots starting quarterback since Tom Brady to hoist the Lombardi Trophy since 2000.

The Patriots went 14-3 in the regular season to earn the second seed in the AFC. In the postseason, they overcame the Chargers, Texans, and Broncos to qualify for football’s biggest stage.

Maye threw for 4394 yards (the first Patriots QB since Brady), 31 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions on 354 completions (72%) in 17 games. He came close to becoming the league MVP but fell short to Rams veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford by the closest of margins.

The stage is set for the Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in California to create history with another Super Bowl victory. One day before the big showdown, Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team disclosed an interesting piece of trivia.

Patriots QB Drake Maye will have a chance to become the first QB since Tom Brady in 2001 to win a Super Bowl the same season he made his first career playoff start.

Meirov tweeted

After missing his rookie season, Brady got his shot to start for New England when Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury. In his first year (2001-02 season) as QB1, Brady went 11-3 and won his first ring.

Maye is in a similar situation, and so was Joe Burrow in 2021. However, the Bengals superstar failed to overcome the final hurdle, much like Jimmy Garoppolo with the 49ers (2019), Colin Kaepernick with the 49ers (2012), and Jake Delhomme with the Panthers (2003). The equation is simple: win, and Maye cements his name in the history books alongside one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, or lose and become just another player who made it to a Super Bowl.

Is Tom Brady jealous of Drake Maye? Skip Bayless weighs in

Being a Patriots legend and a Hall of Famer, everyone presumed that Brady is a de facto supporter of Maye and the current version of the Boston team. His statement indicated otherwise. Speaking on FOX Sports, the 48-year-old declared that he has “no dog in this fight.” Basically, he chose a neutral path, and for good reason.

Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders and also serves as a gameday analyst for the FOX network. Meanwhile, Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has been linked to the Raiders as a potential next head coach.

New England fans and former players didn’t see it that way. Instead, they called out Brady. Even fans from rival groups took shots at the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Skip Bayless, a die-hard fan of the Cowboys and Shedeur Sanders, said that Brady is jealous of Maye for being on the verge of matching his record.

I always used to call him psycho Tom. I think he is a little jealous of Drake Maye’s golden boy success in a place where he dominated for so long.

Bayless said in a recent appearance on Arena Gridiron

Brady’s next move silenced the naysayers for the timebeing. On Saturday, he officially backed the Patriots through an Instagram post. In the caption, Brady wished Patriots owner Robert Kraft good luck in winning a seventh ring.
